March 2018 Oracle FINAL.compressed

HEALTH & FITNESS COMMITTEE Desert Health and our Committee co-sponsored a Health & Wellness Fair February 17 in the LP Clubhouse with 29 exhibitors, three of which included our Committee, the Safety & Security Committee, and what we called Sports Fitness (Golf, Pickleball, and Tennis). We also included LifeStream which had their Blood Mobile out in the Front Office parking area. We are creating an Injury Incident Log to capture any injuries in the Fitness Center to better understand if we have equipment safety issues or if we need to educate our equipment users. We are updating the Wall of Honor, located in the Fitness Center, to make the lettering more visible. To-date, we’ve received a bid from Best Signs, the original sign maker, and Clint has requested a bid from Sign-O-Rama, the resort’s signage company. The goal is to have this completed by season end in April. Our budget submittal, this year, included replacing the belts & decks on all five treadmills and replacing the three televisions with a larger size and high definition capability. We sold three bricks at the January 20 Flea Market. We participated in the February 24 and will again at the March 17 Flea Markets. If you would like to leave a legacy here at ORPS help us complete the Pathway to Fitness by buying a brick. A&A Committee The A&A Committee has completed a record number of permit approvals in the past month as our new owners are expanding their outdoor living space and changing or enhancing overgrown or outdated vegetation. The newest changes to or A&A rules allowing outdoor kitchens and shade structures are changing the aesthetic landscape in a positive way. We are evaluating alternative sewer connection points for kitchen sinks to minimize hardscape tear out and shorten sewer runs. City and HOA permits as well as neighbor agreements will dictate the feasibility of these alternatives. We have approved a variety of shade structures types, styles, and sizes and continue to approve on a case by case basis. Continued at top if next column …. P AM W ALKER Chair

A&A Committee Continued Our emphasis will continue to focus on functionality, overall structure height, resort aesthetics, and improving the outdoor living space of our members. Several pergolas have been approved as well as the canvas covering styles. We are evaluating some conceptual drawing as well as detailed specifications for custom built pergolas. Attend our meetings to present your ideas and learn more about these new changes.

FACILITIES PLANNING COMMITTEE As our season here at ORPS is winding down, we on the Facilities Committee have been ramping up! We have been very busy finalizing our recommendations to the board regarding the new and improved “Pickleball Sports Complex” and the “Tennis Sports Complex”. We are also planning for the ES and LP pool upgrades which will include new pool decks, shade structures and pergolas. All of these improvements are being made to keep our beautiful resort 5 star quality while giving our owners 5 star amenities to enjoy! Many thanks for endless hours of work and research to C HARLES S TINSON and C LINT A THERTON . Without them, these projects may never have happened and certainly would not have been as well thought out or as beautiful and forward thinking. Next steps in approving our proposals lie with the finance committee for funding discussions and the board for approvals. While working hard on the sports complexes and pool upgrades, we have not lost sight of the need to upgrade the ES kitchen. We are hoping that all can be accomplished in a 3 year plan. Continued thanks to my committee members M ARSHA N ELSON , A LICE H EUPLE , D ENNY B LOOM , M IKE M URRAY , J UDY J URACH , C HARLES S TINSON , M ICHELLE M OORE and S HERYL N ELSON . But, I would like to especially thank M ICHELLE M OORE whose term is up in March. She has played an invaluable roll as secretary to this committee and it will be sad to see her leave. On that note, I must say again that we need more volunteers! If you have an interest in seeing our resort move into the future with upgrades to structures and amenities and espe- cially if you have an engineering, contractor or design background, PLEASE speak to me or one of my committee members. We always welcome new people and new ideas to our group. A VA F ELT Chair
