COVER STORY 83 RD GRAND CHAPTER MEETING: SPVP SPOTLIGHT

Mock: This relationship is critical. When both the SPVP and Province Polemarch work together it makes it easier to convey the mission and the goals of the province to the brothers. It shows unity and the two can receive buy-in when disseminating informa- tion and initiatives. They win and lose together no matter what. Journal: Why do you feel the role of SPVP is so important? Mock: This role is important because it’s an extension of the Grand Board, the highest elected officer of the province and a liaison between the brothers and the Province Polemarch. Journal: What are some things you hope to do for your province while being SPVP? Mock: As SPVP, I hope to strengthen reclamation, rebuild chapter relation- ships and foster more camaraderie amongst the chapters. Brown: I serve as the Vice Chair of the Council of Sr. Province Vice Polemarchs. It is my responsibility to reconcile all program documentation data to be submitted to the Grand Board. Journal: What does being a SPVP mean to you? Brown: It is a special feeling to be elected by the members of your province to serve them. It shows that brothers recognize your hard work, dedication and they are entrusting you to speak on their behalf. Journal: Describe the importance of the relationship between the SPVP and the

Puder: The relationship is critical. As the SPVP you must support the Prov- ince Polemarch’s vision and objectives. You have to be on the same accord and verbalize one message to the body. Journal: Why do you feel the role of SPVP is so important?: Puder: Lead the Province Commit- tees and collect the information for the Province Polemarch. You fill in when he is not available and in large provinces that is critical. You are an ear for him to bounce and ideas and provide honest feedback and support. Journal: What are some things you hope to do for your province while being SPVP? Puder: Improve the functioning of our committees, continue the Membership Re-engagement program, assist with chapters being reactivated, assist with hearings and province planning. Mock Stockbridge - Jonesboro (GA) Alumni Chapter Time serving as Senior: 1 Year 7 months Journal: What is one significant initia- tive you lead as SPVP (for your Province and/or Grand Chapter)? Mock: Province Coordinator for St. Jude Journal: What does being a SPVP mean to you? Mock: This position means a great deal simply because it’s the highest elected position of the province. Holding the of- fice in a province this size is much to be grateful for and should never be taken for granted. To have the support of the body of brothers really stands out in my mind and it is my hope that I’ve served to the best of my ability. Journal: Describe the importance of the relationship between the SPVP and the Province Polemarch:

Brown: There must be a mutual respect and love for Kappa between these two men. The willingness to be candid with one another and supportive at the same time. I have been blessed to work with a Province Polemarch that I call brother and friend and that relationship contin- ues to grow. Journal: Why do you feel the role of SPVP is so important? Brown: Sometimes brothers feel like they don’t have a voice in the room. It is the responsibility of the SPVP to be that voice for the brothers. SPVP are in the trenches with brothers and chapters and can shed light to what the brothers are feeling in certain situations. Journal: What are some things you hope to do for your province while being SPVP? Brown: I hope to represent my province to the best of my ability. Be open to hear the viewpoints of others so I can share that with the Grand Polemarch, Grand Board, Province Polemarch and IHQ. Journal: What is one significant initia- tive you lead as SPVP (for your Province and/or Grand Chapter)? Thompkins: The Chapter Program Doc- ument captures important information the Grand Chapter uses when soliciting corporate sponsorships. In addition, this information helps to highlight details about a specific province. I had the op- portunity to lead the Northeastern Prov- ince through a process change, which allowed a more user friendly method of capturing this information in the form of a survey. As we all know, change is not always embraced; however, I was able to get full participation from all of our chapters.
