Silhouette Geraldine Battles, First Lady of Kappa Alpha Psi ® , Focuses on Safe Sleep Practices

S ilhouette Geraldine Battles is the wife of Thomas L. Battles, Jr., the Grand Polemarch of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. As Kappas First Lady, Silhouette Battles serves as the spokesperson for the Global Infant Safe Sleep Center and its partnership with Kappa and the Silhouettes. The Global Infant Safe Sleep (GISS) Center, is a national organization created to help communities reduce infant sleep-related deaths and promote healthy infants and lifestyles. Silhouette Battles has traveled the country on behalf of the Kappa Silhouettes and the GISS speaking to parents, grandparents, caregivers, and even teenagers about the importance of safe sleep practices. Battles effectively engages audiences, taking every opportunity to change the paradigm to increase awareness on the topic that plagues African American communities. Silhouette Battles teaches classes, gives away cribs and other educational resources, so every child has an opportunity to survive and thrive. Additionally, Silhouette Battles is a champion for domestic violence awareness. She takes every opportunity to share the need to create avenues of refuge for victims and families of domestic violence. Realizing that nearly half of all domestic violence victims are African- American women, Silhouette Battles makes a concerted effort to be a bridge between victims and resources. Silhouette Battles is joined in her work by her partner in life, Thomas L. Battles, Jr. Together, they work tirelessly to bring change to every area in life. The foundation of their work is their faith in God, belief in family, and conviction that there is good in every person to make this world a better place.
