Kappa Journal Post-Conclave Issue (Fall 2017)

to bring brothers back on our college campuses. The constitution says that a minimum of seven brothers must be active on the campus to be considered an active chapter. After the moratorium this has been challenging and I plan to work with the team to combat this issue.” “Being an undergraduate brother initi- ated in the first semester of my Sopho- more year of college I believe I have seen some of the many possibilities that Kappa has. In my mind the focus of the organization has shifted somewhat from what the Founders intended and has been now more so too focused on the social aspects. I enjoy all the festivities and parties that the chapters have but we cannot let this be a replacement to achievement through community ser- vice, academics, and creating positive change on our campuses each and every day because we are role models to mil- lions and sometimes forget that we are looked to for leadership and guidance at our universities.” “With this position I hope to use my undergrad status to relate to members nationwide and help bridge the gap that can arise between undergraduates and alumni members. Most importantly it is my goal to help undergraduates focus on the sustainability of the fraternity for years to come and move away from a short-term frame of mind,” stated Brother Girma. Brother Cross intends to work with the Journal as a part of its focus on under- graduate brothers. “We will revive the “Kappa Scholars and Campus Lead- ers” element of The Journal where at least one issue a year will be solely on undergraduates and our achievements on campuses and in the communities. With the start of the new website, we envision starting a program that allows alumni brothers and undergradu- ate brothers to network and develop Undergraduates Supporting the Junior Grand Vice Polemarch

mentor/mentee relationships based on major(s) and career field(s).” Grand Lt. Strategies Girma states, “There is no I in the word team which is why it is important that we give the Junior Grand Vice Polemarch Broth- er Cross our full support in everything we pursue. I am confident that the team we have is solid and has the potential to be the most influential that the frater- nity has seen as every member has key important attributes and characteristics that can move Kappa in the right direc- tion.» Grand Strategus Richardson says, “I will support our Junior Grand Vice Polemarch, Brother Cross by imple- menting his agenda and making myself available whenever I am needed. He has assigned us various duties to perform and I will complete it to the best of my ability.” Grand Board Member Garcia believes that “Brother Cross is an exceptional leader on campus and he will definitely be able to carry this skill into his term. He wants nothing but the best for the us, the undergraduates. To make this the strongest undergraduate leader- ship cohort we will all need to make a collective effort. We do not want to give our Junior Grand Vice Polemarch the entire burden so I and the other Grand

Chapter Officers and the 13 Junior Province Vice Polemarchs will all need to come together and have our voices heard alongside Brother Cross’. We will also support the Junior Grand Vice Polemarch’s efforts by increasing com- munication within the provinces through our 13 JVPs. I want to help Brother Cross make sure the undergraduates feel empowered and have a voice. By doing so, younger brothers can truly feel they are a part of the change and moving into this 2 nd century of Kappa, and doing their parts to uphold Phi Nu Pi. If the undergraduate leaders around Brother Cross are working collectively, he will have all the support he needs.” Grand Board Member Earls said of the Junior Grand Vice Polemarch, “He’s sharp, groomed for leadership, and has a talented team behind him that refuses to fail. Since meeting most of these broth- ers at the Undergraduate Leadership In- stitute in the summer of 2016, we have developed a camaraderie that is like none-other. I can’t necessarily compare this cohort to the ones before us, but what I can say is that we are a nimble, multi-faceted team that’s chomping at the bit to take Kappa by force.”
