Journal: Why should one be a member of the NAACP? These are the times when we must resist and also move beyond resistance. We have to move forward despite what

happens in Washington and these really are the types of times that the NAACP was made for. For more than a century, the NAACP has widened the doors of opportunity for people in communities, throughout our country. It continues to deserve our time, our talent, and our treasury. Journal: What advice would you give to young people who want to make a differ- ence through public service?

We have the opportunity in this country to move forward on making higher education af- fordable, increasing the minimum wage, and expanding economic opportunity in an inclusive way. Young people have the opportunity to shape the future of our state, and as we travel around the state, we’re building a movement that incorpo- rates all Marylanders.
