Theophilus “Theo” A. Logan (Epsilon 1936) Celebrates Birthday Milestone

O n April 30, 2017, Brother Theophilus “Theo” Logan celebrated his 100 th Birthday surround- ed by Family, Friends and Kappa Brothers. Life Member, Brother Theophilus Alonzo Lo- gan was born in Lima, Oklahoma, on April 30, 1917, where he attended elementary school, and graduated from Douglass High School in nearby Wewoka. “Theo” was initiated into Epsilon Chapter, Kappa Alpha Psi Fra- ternity, Inc., on November 18, 1936, on the campus of Lincoln University, Pennsylvania, where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts, in 1939. After gradua- tion he worked for a short time in southeast Oklahoma as a church school organizer for the United Presbyterian Church. He was drafted in the U.S. Army in April 1942 and retired July, 1962 with the rank of Major. Brother Logan established residence in San Diego, California, entered the real estate business in 1962 and in 1965, opened Logan Real Estate, located at 4490 Logan Av- enue. He remained in business at that location until he retired in 2010. In 1965, he joined the San Diego Association of Real- tors, becoming the first African American member. He served the association in various capacities as a member including several terms as a director. He was elected and served as President of the Association in 1978. Theo has been an active member of the San Diego Com- munity for nearly fifty years, serving in many capacities. He served as Polemarch of the San Diego Alumni Chap- ter, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., 1970-71. From

1969-72 he served as a member of the San Diego Park and Recreation Board. During that tenure, he influenced the Board to improve the park facilities in the Southeast Community. From 1980-83, he as- sisted in the formation of, and served as the First Vice Chairman of the South East Development Cor- poration (SEDC). Other voluntary work included service on the San Diego County Tax Appeals Board, the Jackie Robinson YMCA Board, Boy Scouts of America and the PTA. He has been a financial spon- sor of Little League and other community activities; in addition to being a vital member of his church. Theo is married to the former Martha R. Nash, a retired attorney, who he met while they were both instructors at Lincoln University, Jefferson City, Mis- souri, and married in 1957. They have two chil- dren, William, an attorney (San Diego (CA) Alumni 2002), and Barbara (AKA) plus four grandchildren. Both Theo Logan and William Logan are proud ac- tive members of the San Diego Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. During the Birthday Celebration, Western Province Polemarch Gilbert D. Brown, III (below) and Imme- diate Past Western Province Polemarch Samuel B. Knight, presented Brother Logan with a Resolution from Grand Polemarch Thomas A. Battles, Jr. , the Grand Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
