KAPPA FOUNDATION NEWS: THE STATE OF THE FOUNDATION

State of the Kappa Alpha Psi ® Foundation By Michael J. Dubose, Foundation President

I t is with great pleasure that I bring to you the state of our Foundation and the status of our “New Way Forward Strategic direction for the year of 2017." Your Foundation continues to grow and refine our direction and purpose in serving our largest donor community, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc, and those causes that enhance our communities across the country. In year two of our journey we focused on establishing our first national signature event “Building the Dream Klassic” under the leadership of our board Voce President Rod Adkins. This event was held at the PGA National Resort in West Palm Beach, Florida in March of this year. This inaugural event raised over half a million dollars, and established a national sporting event and educational forum to give back to our youth in our communities across the country. Donations were made to the Miami and West Palm Beach Kappa League Programs,

along with helping to fund all of our national initiatives as a Foundation.

Our second revamped signature event led by Director Don- ald Bland, was our “Celebration Luncheon” held at the 83 rd Grand Chapter Meeting this summer. Our featured speaker was Mrs. Susan L. Taylor, Editor Emeritus of Essence Maga- zine. This event raised over $175,000 which helped us to support the local Orlando community with a $25,000 dona- tion for a community computer lab, 12 scholarships for high school students totaling $22,000 entering college this past fall, and $10,000. for donations to the local Orlando Shelter and local youth programs. Also in 2017, under the leadership of Director Pierre Le Veaux, the K100 Executive Leadership Program was re- vamped and re-engineered to attract key executives into the program. Events in New York and Chicago galvanize our
