Foster, Jr.” Rufus was a recipient of the, Boy Scouts of America; Citadel Certificate from the Board of Governor’s Piedmont Assemble Class of Inductees (March 5, 1994). He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-three years, Mildred (nee Thomas) Foster who passed away in 2005 and by a sister Mrs. Felicia F. Davis and a brother, Mr. Ellington L. Foster. He is survived by son, Mr. Vincente Foster (Netta) of Gaffney; daughter, Ms. Kathy Foster; four grandchildren, Ms. Tyan- nia “T.G.” Foster of Charlotte, NC, twins Ms. Briana Foster of Gaffney, Ms. Bianca Foster of Columbia, SC, and Ms. Kiana Foster of Gaffney and the late O’Brien Mar’kee Guest; and three great- grandchildren, Davaney McGill, O’Brien
Guest-Linder and Breann Whisonant.
Upon graduating, he came back to Baltimore and began his teaching career. He obtained a Master’s Degree from Coppin State University in Baltimore, MD. Andrew also attended Towson State University, the University of Maryland College Park, and Loyola College as he completed courses for teaching career. In 1966, Brother Harvey married Alice V. Shields and from this union wee born the late Michael D. Harvey Sr., and Benjamin S. Harvey Sr. He started as a substitute teacher at Charles Houston Jr. High (#181) IN 1962 and in 1963 he moved to Clifton Park Jr. High (#90). He then became Department Head as Samuel Gompers (#298). At Garrison Jr. High/Middle (#42), he served as Assistant Principle from 1976-1983 and Principle from 1983 until 1995 when he retired. Brother Harvey enjoyed traveling during his retirement years. He was very mild- mannered person who assisted anyone who needed a helping hand. Andrew was also a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. Inc., and a past President of Phi Delta Kappa Johns Hopkins University Chapter. He enjoyed working on the church deacon board at Gillis Memorial Christian Community Church and he loved his chorus, the T.C. Jackson Jr. Male Chorus Reading the Bible and studying God’s word was his favorite pastime as home. Brother Harvey leaves to cherish memory; his beloved wife Alice V. Harvey and children Andrew D. Harvey Jr. (Zakia Harvey) Cheryl D. Harvey; six grandchildren Remi Jordan (Johnathan Jordan), Rubin Harvey, Christian Washington-Harvey, Nenjanin S. Harvey, Jr. (Janee Harvey), Michael D Harvey Jr. who departed him before death, Bria A. Harvey, and Madison Davis, seven great-grandchildren and a host of in-laws, family, friends, and colleagues. His grandson, Michael D. Harvey Jr. proceeded him
Other survivors are: his siblings, Dr. T. Littlejohn Foster (Sandy) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Mrs. Madelyn F. Daniels (Reverend Donald) of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Mrs. Gloria F. Inabinette (the late Deacon Elijah) and Ms. Rosmaree Foster, both of Gaffney; and a host of in-laws, nieces and nephews. Andrew D. Harvey 1935–2017 Veteran, Community Servant
Andrew Dewitt Harvey (Nashville (TN) Alumni 1970) was born February 6, 1935 to the late Mary Edythe Kelly and Benjamin
Andrew Harvey Sr. in Baltimore, MD. On August 6, 2017, God called Andrew home to rest. At an early age, while attending Metropolis United Church, he accepted Jesus as his Savior. During theses years, he was active in the Methodist Youth Fellowship program, Bible study, and the Drum Bugle Corps. He was educated in the Baltimore City Public Schools, graduated from Frederick Douglass Senior High February 1953. Upon his graduation, he entered Howard University in Washington, D.C. where he stayed until February 1955. At that time, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he was in airborne electronics. In 1957, while on active duty, Andrew married Yvonne R. Washington and from this union were born Andrew D. Harvey Jr. and Cheryl D. Harvey. He was honorably discharged in December 1958 as Airman First Class. In January 1959, he went to work fir Bethlehem Steel where he worked on the shipyard until he returned to Howard University in September 1959.
