The 83 rd Grand Chapter Meeting Convenes in Orlando, Florida

A s the Grand Polemarch’s distinctive entrance to this opening ses- sion will go down in history as he moved to the brassy tones one im- mediately associates with the incomparable Florida A&M University Marching 100 to energize the crowd, the 83 rd Grand Chapter Meeting literally stood united under the ban- ner “Leave a Legacy…Build a Future.” The Public Meeting Program was replete with exemplifiers committed to this theme. First, the Divine Nine joined the members of Kappa Alpha Psi ® in solidarity with Kappa’s Six-Point Plan of investing in our under- graduates our Guide Right members and our communities. In recognition of a lifetime of building a future through their respective legacies, Rod- ney C. Adkins and Dr. Julian M. Earls were

conferred the 73 rd and 74 th Laurel Wreaths respectively. Humanitarian awards recognized the lega- cies built by Roslyn M. Brock, the fourth woman and youngest person to serve as Chairperson of the NAACP; The Honorable John R. Lewis, United States Representative for Georgia’s 5 th congressional district, past chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coor- dinating Committee (SNCC) and one of the principal organizers of the 1963 March on Washington; Benjamin L. Crump, Esq., and Daryl D. Parks, the principals of the famed civil rights firm Parks and Crump. In times such as these, we can survey the legacies being forged by these honorees as we forge a better future for those that come behind us.
