83 RD GRAND CHAPTER MEETING: THE PUBLIC MEETING

T he 83 rd Grand Chapter Meeting convened under the theme Leave a Legacy… Build a Future. At the heart of ensuring this theme is carried from the chapter to the province and reflected on the national level is Kappa’s Six-Point Plan. The tenets of the plan are outlined below. recruit mature responsible members who are achievers and like-minded individuals with the intent of organization wide sus- tainability. Make risk avoidance training a requirement of membership. 6. Executive Leadership Training & Suc- cession Planning: identify and develop exceptional talent for leadership devel- opment and succession planning.

1. Community Service: inspire public- service interest throughout parallel initia- tives on all levels of the fraternity. 2. Infrastructure: reorganize international headquarters to meet the administrative needs of the fraternity. 3. Undergraduate Development: imple- ment policies and programs for un- dergraduate chapters to encourage increased participation in University and Grand Chapter activities. 4. Reclamation: grow the fraternity’s financial role by identifying and imple- menting effective strategic initiatives aimed at reenergizing an active member- ship.

The Pubic Meeting was designed to highlight some of the legacies that inspire public interest, and strengthen capacity for undergraduate students while looking to the future. Held on, July 18, 2017, at the Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando, Florida, the Public Meeting energized attendees for the week ahead. Ruben A. Shelton, III, Esq. Senior Grand Vice Polemarch, presided. Special guests included the Past Grand Polemarchs and wearers of the frater- nity's most coveted award: the Laurel Wreath. After the posting of the colors, the National Anthem and a rendition of

Lift Every Voice and Sing, Rev. Gregory K. Blue, National Chaplain of Kappa Alpha Psi ® gave the invocation. Brother Shelton introduced special guests and officials. Thomas L. Battles Jr., Grand Polemarch of Kappa Alpha Psi ® , welcomed the attendees. Chester Leaks, Grand Keeper of Records & Exchequer, provided the occasion.
