KAPPA NEWS: 106 TH ELDER WATSON DIGGS AWARDEE—DR. EDWARD R. SCOTT II

D r. Edward R. Scott, II’s journey to this point began on September 26, 1954 in Madison, FL when he was born to Edward and Jayne Scott, both educators and strong fixtures within the Madison community. He is a spring 1973 initi- ate of the Alpha Xi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. on the campus of Florida A&M University. Brother Scott’s resume is very impressive as a Naval Officer and a Florida A&M University graduate (Magna Cum Laude), then at- tending Harvard School of Dental Medicine. He has served as CEO and President of Faith Dental Center in Tallahassee, FL; first and only African American member of the American Dental Association’s Council on Access, Prevention, and Inter-professional Relations; and the third African American elected as Chairman of the Florida Board of Dentistry. He served as a U.S. Navy Dental Officer from 1979-1982 where he completed training in a compre- hensive dentistry including all specialty areas of dentistry. On a na- tional level, he has served as the national consultant to Robert Woods Johnson Dental Pipeline Grant Advisory Board where he was instru- mental in the recruitment of minority students into dental education and dental schools. Brother Scott has served as Vice Polemarch for Alpha Xi and Tal- lahassee (FL) Alumni, Polemarch for Beaufort (SC) Alumni and Tallahassee (FL) Alumni, Southern Province Board Member, and Undergraduate Chapter Advisor for Alpha Xi. He has also served on several committees throughout Kappa where his expertise in the field of health has blessed countless others. Brother Scott is a community advocate as well. He is the Pastor of Mount Zion A.M.E., board mem- ber of Ratter Booster Club, board member Tallahassee NAACP, and many other civic organizations. Throughout the Southern Province, he has assisted not only his province leader- ship but several chapters with health fair programs as part of the fraternity’s Healthy Kappas, Healthy Communities Initiative. He has served Samuel C. Hamilton (30 th Grand Polemarch), Dwayne M. Murray, Esq. (31 st Grand Polemarch), William “Randy” Bates, Esq. (32 nd Grand Polemarch), and Thomas L. Battles, Jr. (33 rd Grand Polemarch) in the capacity of National Medical Director of Health and Wellness Chairman. He has been honored with several awards from the Tallahassee com- munity, Florida A&M University and Kappa Alpha Psi. He was named FAMUAN of the Millennium (2000), received the President’s Dis- tinguished Service Award and Distinguished Alumni Award, Florida A&M University (1995, 1998), Outstanding Service Award, Florida Medical, Dental and Pharmaceutical Association (1991-1995), Florida Small Business Person of the Year Award (1991), Father of the Year, Bethel A.M.E. Church (1996), Man of the Year Tallahassee (FL) Alumni Chapter (1985) and Kappa Alpha Psi Southern Province Alumni Achievement Award (1993). Brother Scott resides in Tallahassee, Florida with his wife, Pamela, a renowned retired educator holding two Masters Degrees. They have three children, Kanesha, Edward III (Alpha Xi 2003), and Padric (Lambda Nu 2009).
