KAPPA NEWS: 107 TH ELDER WATSON DIGGS AWARDEE—MELVIN SOLOMON

M elvin Solomon was initiated in spring of 1966 at the Delta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi on the campus of Wilberforce University of Wilberforce, OH. Brother Solomon is a Grand Chapter and Southeastern Province Life Member and wears a Kappa Alpha Nu 1912 Legacy Badge. Brother Solomon is a Senior Consultant with DeKalb County (GA) Government and Managing Partner of Solomon Partners, Inc. He is the point of contact for the One DeKalb Works Job Initiative where he monitors the First Source Jobs Ordinance and Local Small Business Enterprise utilization for all County Watershed Management Capital Improvement Projects. He has also served as Contract Manager of AFR & Associates, Inc., Executive Director of the Atlanta One Stop Capital Shop, Community Builder Fellow with the US De- partment of Housing and Urban Development, Vice President of HIS Management, Inc. and Paradise Management, Inc., and President of TNC, Inc. His community advocacy includes 100 Black Men of Atlanta, the Boy Scouts of America, and the Board of Trustees for the DeKalb County Public Library, promoting literacy and reading. He served as a Development Officer for the Atlanta Develop- ment Authority where he commissioned a major art project, currently on display in the Richard B. Russell Federal Building. He currently serves as a volunteer leader on the Atlanta Belt- line Affordable Housing Advisory Board for the city of Atlanta, where he provides invaluable guidance as the organization works to achieve its affordable housing goals. Brother Solomon has held several leadership positions in the fraternity, serving on multiple committees of the Atlanta (GA) Alumni Chapter and the Southeastern Province; the Atlanta (GA) Alumni Chapter 19 th Polemarch for five consecutive years; the 17 th Southeastern Province Polemarch; National Reclamation Committee; member of the Grand Board of Directors; General Chairman of the Diamond Jubilee Celebra- tion (75 th Grand Chapter Meeting). Under his leadership as Province Polemarch, the Southeastern Province chartered six collegiate chapters and five alumni chapters. It was during his tenure as Atlanta (GA) Alumni Polemarch that he was affec- tionately referred to as the “Renaissance Polemarch” for his ability to bridge the gap between younger brothers and older brothers thereby strengthening the bond of fraternity. Brother Solomon resides in Atlanta, Georgia. Widely viewed as a source of wise counsel by peers and the next generation of leaders, he continues to demonstrate a standard of excellence that few ever achieve.
