taking effort, deplores the imperfection of his polished work! . . . This is true also of the Christian life. It was be cause Paul realized so perfectly the lofty meaning of the gospel that he was dissatisfied with himself. Let us then say with Paul, “Brethren, I count not myself to have aoprehended.” ' —R. A. Lapsley. FOURTH DAY Take Heed “Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfil it” (Col. 4:17). A minister of Christ is often in highest honor of men for the per formance of one half of his work, while God is regarding him with displeasure, for the neglect of the other half. —Richard Cecil. May God open our eyes to see what the holy ministry of intercession is to which, as His royal priesthood, we have been set apart. . . . And may all fear as to our being able to fulfill our vocation vanish as we see Jesus, living ever to pray, living in us to pray, and standing surety for our prayer-life. —Andrew Murray. “As for me, I ■will call upon God. . . . Evening, and morning, and. a t noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice” (Psa. 55:16, 17). Sometimes I have so much to do I think it must be done. ' I’ll work so very, very hard From mom till set of sun, But here is something I have found: This really doesn’t pay. I’ve always found I’ve weaker grown If I have failed to pray. So I am trying hard to learn That nothing’s really great If it must take my praying time, So praying has to wait. It’s praying makes me fit for work; It is my staff and stay, And work will never be the best, If I have failed to pray. • —Silvia Ward. SIXTH DAY Continuing Daily “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall Tyalk, and. not faint”. .(Isa. 40:31). “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory” (1 Tim. 3:16). Napoleon on St. Helena said: “I know men, and Jesus was no man. Charle magne, and Alexander the Great, and I, founded great empires upon force, and here is One who founded an empire up on love. And now I am alone and for saken, and there are millions who would die for Him.” . . . Peter puts it for us: “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree.” “Hallelujah, what a Saviour!”—a Sav iour who is “very God of very God, begotten not made.” He came down to the manger to lift us UP, and to set us poor sinners as princes in His Kingdom.—S. M. Zwemer. SECOND DAY A Present Possession “In God have I put my trust; I will not be afraid what man can do unto me. . . For thou hast delivered my soul from death” (Psa. 56:11, 12). A man who possesses, but }s not sure whether his account is good, and, there fore,- does not draw upon it, is, for all practical purposes, a pauper. So / t is with this question of the present/ pos session of eternal life. . . . The Word of God is the guarantee of our salva tion and the ground of our assurance. . . . This is one of the reasons that so many people have found comfort in the Word of God. It is a solid ground of certainty.—-Donald Grey Bamhouse. THIRD DAY Wholesome Discontent “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended” (Phil. 3:13).
