alumni news

by Inez McGahey Ronald ’56 and Joyce (Uskoski ’AA ) Swick, serving with Wycliffe Bible Trans lators, are working with the Chuave tribe. Ruth (Wilder ’47) and Al Rohrbaugh, Naples, Italy: “ There seems to be a heavy burden to see something happen in Italy. . . . Already we are seeing some indica tion. . . . There is a plan to bring approxi mately 1000 young people from various countries, including the United States, to work with the Italians to evangelize and distribute tracts. . . . W e accepted the challenge of this group . . . and passed out tracts, sang, testified, and preached in downtown Rome. Eight professed to accept Christ. One Jewish boy from New York asked to come to the Italian Bible Institute to talk further . . . and he re ceived Christ after Royal Peck dealt with him. Pray for all of Italy and the Grag- nano Baptist Church.” James ’44 and Joey (Darling ’44) Smith, Tucson, Arizona: “ Jim has been quite ill . . . but is now better. He goes on week ends to Imuris, when his health permits, for services. I am busy at home with the children . . . and serving die Lord as much as possible.” Golda (Orr ’50) and Wesley Wilson, Nagano Ken, Japan: “W e have been ex tremely busy at our Mission Center in Karuizawa. . . . Pray for the Nagano radio broadcast, which had to be discon tinued because of the financial deficit, but this has been cared for and plans are being made to resume broadcasting soon.” Jean ’60 and Phil ’60 Dodson, Bakers field, California: “After graduating from Biola, we completed a year of graduate study at Redlands University. Phil worked toward his Master of Music, and I ac quired a California Teaching Credential. W e remained there for two years, and then last August moved to Bakersfield. Phil is full-time minister of music at the First Baptist Church, serving as organist- director, in charge of nine choirs. I am playing the organ in the evening, teach ing private violin and piano, and attend ing U’SC for graduate study in violin.” Gladys (White ’29) and Henry McCune, Kowloon, Hong Kong: “ I have been serv ing the Lord in China and in Japan since my graduation. At present we are in the new territories of the Hong Kong area. . . . .This is a needy field and we are being begged to open English classes, which would require a building; and to build now would cost several thousand American dollars. Bible is taught as one subject in English. . . . Adults, who now are too busy earning a livelihood . . . would come and receive the Gospel if English were taught. Pray for this and for our tract distribution.” Everett ’36 and Mina Bachelder, Nome, Alaska: “ It was during our first year in Nome that we began the bottle floating ministry, which has proved fruitful in many ways. . . . W e have distributed thousands of Gbspel portions, calendars, et cetera.”
