MBA COURSE CONTENT

The MBA at Swansea University has nine modules that have been consciously developed to help students address the future challenges facing business.

RESEARCH IN ACTION : CONDUCTING A CLIENT PROJECT

this learning, students will develop a business case to successfully navigate and overcome a series of contemporary challenges in pursuit of new product and service development. LEADING WITH INTEGRITY Today’s businesses face unprecedented rates of change, whether from access to big data and sophisticated technologies or the speed of social and political change on potential and existing markets, suppliers and consumers. In these times the role of the leader is challenged constantly , requiring informed and strategic leadership at all levels of an organisation. Modern businesses require leaders with integrity to address the potential pitfalls of fast moving global change, the challenges of operating in diverse contexts and to understand the ways of leading inclusively. This module will enable students to become that leader. CREATING SUSTAINABLE VALUE Rather than proceeding along conventional MBA disciplinary lines, as this method can often obscure the fundamental connections between them, this module takes a holistic approach to the way value is perceived and realised. Recognising that sustainable development in all its forms is a dilemma beyond the capacity of any single organisation business or state to meet, this module draws on the UN Sustainable Development Goals to guide a flexible and topical curriculum that can keep pace with international news. DATA ANALYSIS AND DECISION MAKING This module will evaluate statistical reports and summaries of relevance to business and government, analyse and demonstrate proficiency in linking decision theory with practice and apply quantitative methods for enhanced decision making. You will develop the ability to recognise and translate business problems into context-specific

Research in action introduces students to the way in which research informs management practice by establishing research as a core skill underpinning the MBA programme. Running throughout the duration of the course, the module enables students to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills that underpin effective research. The module culminates in a consultancy-based project that provides students with experience working with a client organisation. EXPLORING ORGANISATIONAL PURPOSE This module will focus on developing your skills of critically assessing options for the design and implementation strategy for delivering successful and sustainable organizational purposes in uncertain environments. Applying high-level analytical skills to evaluate critically organisational environments across different spheres and sectors and identify hybrid organizational responses. You will analyse the relationships between business and society in terms of organisational purposes for sustainable development and evaluate debates about managing responsible business across diverse cultural, developmental and institutional contexts. NAVIGATING INNOVATION & CHANGE Successful companies and organisation of all sizes are typically characterised by innovation and the ability to be agile . This is increasingly important in today’s global marketplace but brings with it challenges to product and service developments as well as change in organisational structures, operations and human behaviour. This module will equip students with the knowledge and skills to engage in the effective development of new products and services, delivering value through navigating innovation lifecycle, open collaboration and developing organisational structures that support rapid and sustainable change.
