2024 IN REVIEW: STORYTELLING THAT INSPIRES ARTS & CULTURAL PROGRAMMING FROM THE TWIN CITIES PBS 2024 REPORT TO THE COMMUNITY

ARTS & CULTURE PROGRAMMING With a long history as a vibrant arts & culture storyteller, TPT premiered a body of work that explores the creativity of artists living with disability, Minnesota’s rich tapestry of local bands and musicians, and the power of food to understand history and heritage, and to connect community. Art + Medicine: Disability, Culture and Creativity In October 2023, TPT aired its fourth installment with the University of Minnesota Medical School’s Center for the Art of Medicine entitled “Art + Medicine: Disability, Culture and Creativity.” Hosted by beloved storyteller Kevin Kling, Professor Jessica Horvath Williams, PhD and Doctor Tsegaensh Selameab, the film centers on artists and healthcare clinicians who use stories and performances to challenges our perceptions of disability.

Stage TPT’s third season of “Stage” premiered in October 2023 with six new episodes featuring marquee local musicians such as Dessa, Soul Asylum and Chastity Brown, who selected a band or artist they admire as an opening act. Blending propulsive live performances and storytelling from the iconic 7th St Entry stage, the show was filmed in front of a live audience of local music fans. In addition, TPT produced a YouTube series called “Backstage” that centers on conversations between the artists about their influences, how they got their start and why they admire one another.

National Award Winner “Stage” was the proud recipient of the 2024 Gracie Award in the “TV-Local” category from the Alliance for Women in Media.

Regional Award Winner Upper Midwest Emmy® Award Winner in the “Arts & Entertainment – Long Form Content” category
