Disco experience The swiftly-approaching Russell Ladies’ Night is offering the true disco experi- ence this year as part of their Disco Flower Power theme with a DJ from Quality En- tertainments, dressed in retro style. The annual event will be held May 2 in Russell and will also feature a sneak preview by the cast of The Full Monty , the next pro- duction by the Russell Association for the Performing Arts. Dinner, silent auction, live auction, photo opportunities, prizes and plenty of fun will start the night. Guest speaker will be a local woman whose husband suffered from ALS, which is the cause chosen by the Ladies’ Night committee this year. Contact Judy McFaul at mcfauljs@gmail.com or 613 445-4161. Used book sales Russell Public School on Mill Street in Russell is holding a used book sale the evenings of Thursday, April 24 and Fri- day, April 25, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The Spring sale has often been offered at RPS and is much-anticipated by readers and bibliophiles of all ages. It offers many thousands of books, DVDs, puzzles and games. The sale is also open for students and parents only during the day on April 24 and 25. For more information or to vol- unteer email jenmilinkovich@gmail.com or call 613-443-0976. For those wishing to clear out some books another opportu- nity to donate books for a good cause is the Mega used-book sale of the Township of Russell Public Library. That sale will be held in the Township Hall in Embrun May 10 to May 15. For information, contact 445-5331. Tree planting begins Trees for Tomorrow in Russell Township is looking for volunteers to help plant trees at three upcoming events. May 3 they will plant trees at Rodolphe Latreille Park in Li- moges, starting at 9 a.m., and at Bourdeau Park in Embrun at 10 a.m. On May 10, they will be planting along the Embrun-Rus- sell fitness trail beginning at 9 a.m. Please contact Josée Smeltzer at jsmeltzer@ hotmail.com for the Limoges planting, Eric Bazinet at ericbazinet@russell.ca for the Embrun planting, or Steve Mihok at smihok@rogers.com for the trail planting. The organization is a non-profit group in Russell Township concerned about tree coverage and biodiversity. Their stated goal is to promote and improve existing trees’ health and to plant as many new trees as they can. Russell Township’s tree cover is more than two-thirds lower than the amount needed. Tree removal is cau- sing loss of biodiversity.
