Lifttime membership for Woods RUSSELL | Local resident Marcella Woods was recog- nized in a ceremony conferring a lifetime member- ship in the Legion and the Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary at the Russell Legion Branch 372 recently. Along with her husband Ken she has placed the pop- py boxes during the Legion’s Poppy Campaign leading up to Remembrance Day. She has been part of the or- ganization of many Legion events. She has volunteered for the Catholic Women’s League for 48 years. She is a member of and volunteer for the 55+ Club in Russell and she is also an active volunteer at Russell Meadows retirement residence. Woods was awarded the lifetime membership in recognition of her active volunteering, both within the Legion and within the community. She was one of the Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary’s founders in 1996 and was president for more than 10 years, within which she spearheaded many initiatives and was involved in many more. “A very heartfelt congratulations come from both the Legion and your Ladies’ Auxiliary comrades,” said cur- rent Auxiliary president Durocher .

The foundation will host breakfast events during the end of April at four venues within Eastern Ontario. The first is April 23 at the Russell High School, followed by the next one on April 24 at the Thousand Islands Secondary School in Brockville. The third one will be held April 25 at the Cornwall Collegiate and Vocational Institute at St. Andrew’s Presbyte- rian Church in Perth, through co-sponsorship with the Perth and District Collegiate Insti- tute, while the last one will be held April 29 at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Perth, through co-operation with the Perth and District Collegiate Institute. Admission for the first three is by donation. The Perth breakfast has a $10 admission charge. The foundation is the charitable arm of the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB). Money raised through the foundation’s activities helps students in need in the UCDSB enjoy organized sports, arts and other non-educational community programs. The money also supports families of these children with any special medical care needs.
