Andrew Morgan’s reflections from our FEBRUARY 2022 auction
LIVE ONLINE
“Will I remember what to do”. You would think with forty years experience on the rostrum I would not be asking myself this question but I find myself in this situation once again! Returning to work after Christmas is tantamount to starting my world from scratch. There are new instructions to be gained, new world and economic circumstances to be considered and new expectations about the year ahead.

No worries, all was well for the start of our third year of Live Online Auctions. Excellent instructions flowed in, viewings went well and the economy still supported an ebullient property market. Stepping up to the rostrum after a long seasonal break with these ‘new year doubts’ was slightly unnerving, however as the clock indicated 6.00pm and the adrenalin flowed I could think of nothing except “I love this excitement” and as Lot after Lot fell successfully under the gavel I also felt the satisfaction of realising how pleased our clients would be at some of the spectacular results – really, it was never in doubt! Predictably, Clifton is always popular with a stylish office with scope for a mews house, subject to any necessary planning approvals, proved my point. Bidding started at the guide price of £350,000 and rapidly rose to a spectacular £570,000 much to our clients delight who text us to say they were going to break their diets and share half a kit kat to celebrate!! ! A prime building plot in Kingsdown provided yet more added excitement with planning permission for four houses and a maisonette, keen bidders soon swept the bidding away from my guide price of £900,000 to eventually sell for £1.125m! Just in case you think an auctioneers life is all “a bed of roses” I was brought back to reality with the penultimate lot, a small parcel of land in Radstock with the bidding starting at £1,000 and selling for £5,000 and I was made to work jolly hard for it!
