Michelle Andrade: Everything’s Fine Project Gallery | March 1–May 24 Opening reception: March 1, 2–4 p.m.
Everything’s Fine , a solo presentation of work by Michelle Andrade, fea- tures work in mixed-media, drawing, sculpture, and book form, all of which are colored by the artist’s discrete use of humor, irony, and sensi- tivity in attempting to make sense of the tensions of daily life. The artist’s signature use of text — whether camouflaged in vivid and complex com- positions or simply presented on the cover of a book — invites viewers to pause for deeper consideration about underlying subtexts. Works on view in Everything’s Fine exploit the duality at the heart of aphorisms and mantras that are deceivingly cheerful and earnestly bittersweet. Michelle Andrade is a Los Angeles-based artist who works in a range of media including paper and ink, acrylic, book form, and edible sculp- tures. She earned her Master of Fine Art from Otis College of Art and Design, Los Angeles, and a Bachelor of Art from The School of the Art Institute, Chicago.
