The CIPP schools project: getting young people interested in understanding their pay and excited about a career in payroll

Ellis Rees ChFCIPPdip, CIPP Schools Engagement Project Lead, talks about the CIPP’s schools project – a powerful initiative to support young people in understanding their pay, and to educate them on the multitude of fantastic career opportunities available in the payroll industry

S everal years ago, my youngest a hairdresser and hadn’t previously paid tax in the current tax year. She then received a payslip which showed a deduction of tax from her pay. I had to try and explain how tax is deducted and its significance in relation daughter asked for my advice. Becky had recently begun employment as

to the start and end of a tax year. After ten minutes of frustration, Becky walked away from me, before finally accepting that the tax deduction was correct, due and wouldn’t be refunded to her. Payroll can be a real head-scratcher, which isn’t surprising given how complex it is. Just think about it: every year, around 366,000

pupils leave full-time education. These figures come from official statistics on school leavers for the 2021/22 academic year, as reported by each devolved nation. Of these, 47% of students receive comprehensive

financial education. Please see here for further information: https://ow.ly/ vpUc50Wy2qI.
