Christological Dogmatics A Theological Witness to the Person and Work of Christ D. Glenn Butner Jr. In Christological Dogmatics, Glenn Butner offers a bold, expansive exploration of Christ’s person and work, weaving together biblical studies, historical theology, and global perspectives—from Nesto- rian disputes to Ethiopian Orthodox debates to modern reflec - tions on christological ethics. Rooted in Protestant convictions of Scripture’s authority and salvation by grace alone, this companion to Butner’s award-winning Trinitarian Dogmatics explores doctri- nal tensions and systematizes Christian thought for the universal church. Unlike typical Christology texts that focus on doctrinal development over time, its locus-by-locus approach synthesizes patristic, medieval, and majority-world voices into a robust, intermediate-level survey. Enhanced with annotated bibliographies after each chapter and a glossary of terms, this volume is an invaluable resource for profes- sors, students, clergy, and theologians. Here, Christology emerges as the vital intersection of Trinity, salvation, and ethics, inviting readers to witness the crucified and risen Savior afresh.

D. Glenn Butner Jr. (PhD, Marquette University) is associate profes- sor of theology at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. He is the author of four books, including Trinitarian Dogmatics: Exploring the Grammar of the Christian Doctrine of God , recipient of a Christianity Today Award of Merit.

FROM THE BOOK Christological dogmatics is . . . marked by several specific challenges, including navigating fragmentation over councils discussing the person of Christ, limited conciliar guidance on the work of Christ, and the need to connect christological dogmatics to moral theology. . . . Careful navigation of centuries of debates about the relationship between the incarnate Son’s humanity and divinity helps us to ensure that the gospel we proclaim speaks of a Savior capable of saving. Variability in biblical depictions of the atonement yields not only a complicated theological puzzle but the flexibility for the missionary to proclaim the good news in a form that might be best suited for a given recipient culture. Emphasis on orthodoxy, orthopraxis, and orthopathy reminds us that the Savior whom we proclaim is the truth (John 14:6), love itself (1 John 4:8), and the master whose easy yoke (Matt. 11:30) leads to a life of spiritual abundance (John 10:10).
