Questions for answer in this corner should be sent to Miss Scott, 8961 Dicks St., West Hollywood, Calif., and a stamped envelope should be enclosed for reply. No name will appear with the questions chosen for publication. Dear Miss Scott:

You cannot shine for God without contin ually being renewed in strength, any more than the lights of an automobile can con tinue to shine if the batteries are not being recharged constantly. Where you are weakest, it is possible, by God’s grace, to become strongest. Oh, what it would mean to that church that is “rather cold and formal” if even one member should be really on fire for God! Fire attracts. Evidence of genuine life, zeal, and joy in the Lord will do more to make un believers hungry to know your Christ than could any sermon that could be preached in words. Think of the opportunity that is yours to help needy souls both in the church and outside it. Continue to look to God day by day, to keep you “hot-hearted” for Him and for souls. Keep ever before you the ideal Christian life as revealed to you through the Word, and keep on tiptoe seek ing to attain the standard set for you, joining with Paul in saying, “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 3:14). It will help you to read the lives of great missionaries and of other Christians who have gone out to do exploits for God. Above all, truly feed upon the Word, for as your Lord talks to you, your heart will burn within you as did the hearts of the disciples on the way to Emmaus long ago. I want to say a personal “Thank You” for all that your Query Corner means to me. It answers some problem of mine every time. After all, I suppose most of us are very much alike and are troubled by the same things. I wonder whether I am like most Chris tians in that it is difficult for me to be con tinually enthusiastic in my Christian life. It is not that I do not pray and read my Bible, for that has been my daily habit since my childhood, but often there is little life in this practice and little reality in my own experience. I associate with Christians, but the church here is rather cold and formal. We young people are so enthus iastic about most things that I do not understand why I am so lacking in spiritual enthusiasm. —T roubled . My dear “Troubled": Your experience is by no means unique. Would it help you understand yourself to know that as great a Christian worker as Timothy had the same temptation ? At least that would seem to be the case, judg ing from Paul’s admonition to him: “Stir up [literally, ‘stir into flame’] the gift of God, which is in thee” (2 Tim. 1:6). Paul must have known that Timothy had a tendency to lower the standard in his spirit ual life and to lose the vision that would keep his life growing and glowing for God. It is easy to come from a great conven tion or revival meeting full of radiant zeal, but this enthusiasm must be the true work of the Holy Spirit in our hearts if we are to be kept on fire during our everyday life in the chilly environment of worldliness or indifference. “They that wait upon the Lord” (Isa. 40:31) are promised strength not only to mount up on wings, but also to walk in the monotonous way when there is a temptation to give way to spiritual lethargy, indolence, or luxurious ease. Realize how essential it is, if God is to be able to work out His purpose for you in the lives of others, that you be “fervent in spirit; serving the Lord” (Rom. 12:11). When you find yourself growing indifferent, read Revelation 3:15, 16 to remind yourself of what the Lord thinks of lukewarm Christians, and then go to your knees and confess your coldness to Him. "Consider him that endured such contradiction of sin ners against himself” (Heb. 12:3). Face the cross until the love of Christ breaks your heart afresh. Stay there until you have a new touch of Gofi upon your own soul. You speak of your habit of praying and reading your Bible daily. Be careful that you do not go through the routine as a habit without really communing with God.
