With a unique approach to the study of the types portrayed in the tabernacle, this book is interestingly written and richly im bedded with spiritual truth. Told in narra-

and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me” (Gal. 2 : 20 ). I wonder how many of us have realized that there is only one Person in the wide universe who can live the Christian life, and that is the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. It is His life. You can no more live His life apart from the fact that He indwells you than you can live anybody else’s life. . . . The Christian life is essentially the outliving of the inliving Christ. “Christ liveth in me.” A little girl reading through a verse in the Word of God said this: “He that believeth hath ‘internal’ life.” It was a misquotation, but it was very true. The Lord Jesus Christ actually lives within. — C a pta in R eginald W allis . “Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God" (2 Cor. 3:5). When a steamship has grounded on the sand bar at a river’s mouth, its own power is valueless for moving it. So far from helping it, the energy of its own machinery will only strain and injure it. What then? It must wait for God’s power, the power of the rising tide. That great uplifting force will do easily and quickly what its own internal power cannot do. This is but a parable of human helplessness waiting for the power that is divine. —G. H. K n ig h t . . The more confession of Christ and of suffering for Him, the more joy there is. — S elected . Nothing shall cause to falter the heart that is in love with the Word of God. When the heart has grasped the great truths of God revealed in His Word, it takes the hesitation out of life. The cause of a great deal of offense and wavering is that we have no heart grasp of the will of the Spirit through the Word. When such a heart grasp of the mind of God becomes the central pivot of life, the thing does not exist that can cause us to falter, because we know that every circumstance of life is God’s wise interposition, a definite move of Omnipotence for our good and for His glory. We know that we stand in a per fect circle environed by God, and that everything that touches us does so with His permission.—From The Conquest of Life by W. Mallis.* *Copyrighted, 1936, by^the Bible E Institute Col portage Association of Chicago , reprinted with ex press permission. AUGUST 15 From the Heart "For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh” (Matt. 12:34). He is listening: does He hear you speaking of the things of earth, Only of its passing pleasures, selfish sorrow, empty mirth? He has spoken words of blessing, pardon, peace, and love to you, Glorious hope and gracious comfort, strong and tender, sweet and true. Does He hear you telling others something of His love untold, Overflowing of thanksgiving for His mercies manifold? Yours may be the joy and labor, His re deemed ones thus to bring Jewels for the coronation of your coming Lord and King. — F rances R idley H avergal . “Peace 1 leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give 1 unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid" (John 14:27). Oh, for grace to bring all, or any, of our cares to God—and for faith to leave them with Him! He knoweth our infirmities. He careth for us. Oh, blessed truths, if we could but feel them, and act upon them, always! If we could but obey that little command, “Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” ! If we could but enter into David’s spirit, when he said, “I have set the Lord always before me: be cause he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved” !— W . W a l s h a m How. AUGUST 17 Wakened by Love “I sleep, but my heart waketh: it is the voice of my beloved" (Cant. 5:2). There is a great difference in essence be tween a spiritually dead man and a man spiritually alive who is asleep, but for all practical purposes there is not so much dif ference. . . . Oh, the sleeping Christians, hundreds of thousands of them! They are Christians and children of God by faith in Jesus Christ, but you will not be able to distinguish and tell the difference between them and those who are not Christians at all. And what a task to wake them u p ! A few hundred yards from our house the Pennsylvania railroad roars by. It runs six fast trains every night, which make a noise and a tumult to wake the dead. But we never hear them; we are used to them. Our baby cannot make a hundredth part of the noise of one of these trains. We are used to her cry, too; yet when she makes the slightest whimper in her bed we hear her. The sound of love awakens us. — O . W. L in n e m e ie r . AUGUST 16 Unearthly Peace
