2024 Texas Capitol Ornament

The 2024 Texas Capitol Ornament is a shiny silver jingle bell featuring the iconic Capitol dome finished in 24k gold on a field of blue and silver Texas stars, all wrapped in a festive blue bow with sprigs of Yaupon Holly. The red berries, white accents, blue ribbon and green holly leaves represent the Texas holiday spirit. The foliage embellishing the ornament is inspired by the Yaupon Holly that can be found on the west Capitol Grounds. This widely recognizable evergreen holly with its bright red berries is one of approximately twenty-five historically significant tree species in the Texas Trail of Trees. Stars have long been a part of Texas history, and they play a prominent role in this year’s ornament. When delegates met for the Convention of 1836 at Washington-on-the-Brazos, they accomplished a considerable amount in just 17 days, including writing both the Texas Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the Republic of Texas, confirming General Sam Houston as commander in chief of the Republic’s military, and organizing an ad interim government. While there, a resolution was introduced and adopted naming a gold or silver star with five points as the representative emblem of the Republic.
