A CURATED SELECTION OF GREAT CARDS
51. 1909-11 T206 Tris Speaker (HOF) - SGC EX 5
53. 1933 Goudey #149 Babe Ruth (HOF) - SGC GOOD 2
Spectacularly sharp and bold rookie card of Hall of Famer Tris Speaker. Though many Hall of Famers were popular enough to have earned multiple T206 card poses, “The Gray Eagle” has just this one, picturing him about to swing at an incoming pitch. Speaker batted .309 in his first full season of 1909, and that would be the lowest batting average he would post for a decade. Speaker’s lifetime batting average of .3447 is good for #9 all-time; he is unquestionably one of the
The second of three Babe Ruth cards from the 1933 Goudey set to derive its design from the same photo, this “Red Ruth” is essentially the same artwork as the #53 “Yellow Ruth,” simply with a red background instead of yellow, and also a waist-up illustration derived from the #144 card that pictures a full-body image of Ruth. This example has been graded GOOD 2 by SGC but is quire remarkable for the grade, well-centered with rich coloration. Corner and edge softness are
deadball era’s more underrated players. Still, his T206 card remains immensely popular, and this is a fine example. Bright and colorful with four square corners, the image quality is robust and the color rich and deep. A L-R centering issue keeps the card from a higher holder, but it remains one of the most visually pleasing examples we have handled.
apparent, with some age-related discoloration along the left border contributing to the technical grade. The verso exhibits uneven, but light toning. Overall an extremely strong example for the grade, one of Ruth’s most popular cards from the most important of all sets from the gum card era.

52. 1947 Tip Top Bread Yogi Berra (HOF RC) - SGC EX/NM 6
54. 1934 R309-1 Goudey Premium Babe Ruth (HOF) - SGC GOOD 2
Unquestionably the key card in the scarce and attractive 1934 Goudey premium issue, the R309- 1 Babe Ruth is typically found in lower grades for the obvious reason that young collectors coveted the oversized premiums and used them as display items in their rooms. Tack holes, creases, and various forms of wear are common to the issue. Graded GOOD 2 by SGC, this example appears strong with edge and corner wear consistent with the
The first non-mainstream card to feature future Yankees Hall of Famer Yogi Berra, the 1947 Tip Top Bread issue captures Berra during his first full season with the Yankees, when he would hit .280 with 11 home runs in 293 at bats. Berra would eventually win 10 World Series rings on his way to a Hall of Fame career that saw him in the MVP running virtually every season he played, capturing three along the way. The card, typically found in low grades, has been graded EX/NM 6 by SGC, with very light corner
grade. A long, diagonal crease begins at the upper right and runs perpendicular to Ruth’s bat until it reaches the right edge of the card. A much smaller corner crease is evident at the bottom left. Regardless, an exceptional example of a popular gum era premium, always in high demand.
wear the primary condition flaw. Of 19 examples graded by SGC, only two have attained the EX/NM plateau with just one higher. A tremendous example of Yogi’s first card.
