The 1952 Topps Eddie Mathews is the “perfect storm” of postwar baseball cards: a rookie card of a Hall of Famer from the desirable “high number” series of the hobby’s premier postwar issue, condition- sensitive due to being the final card in a set. As a result, it is quite desirable, and also quite valuable. This example has been graded GOOD+ 2.5 by PSA, exhibiting overall wear and centered low on the canvas. For the grade, it is quite appealing, the corner wear and aforementioned centering issue the primary condition flaws. An exceptional collector-grade example, the final card in Topps’ crowning achievement, the monstrously popular 1952 set. 55. 1952 Topps #407 Eddie Mathews (HOF RC) - PSA GOOD+ 2.5 MINIMUM BID: $1,000
57. 1957 Topps #77 Bill Russell (HOF RC) - PSA NM 7 (OC)
One of the greatest players of all time, Bill Russell won 11 NBA championships with the Boston Celtics during his 13-year career, his outstanding defense one of the keys to those championships. Hit rookie card, from the 1957 Topps basketball set, remains one of the most coveted basketball cards in the hobby, extremely desirable in any grade. This example has been graded NM 7 (OC) by PSA, the grade a result of light corner wear and faint print snow consistent with this issue. Centering is to the top left, earning the qualifier from
PSA. Collectors looking for a sharp example but unable to keep up with the escalating prices of this card in higher grades need look no further.
MINIMUM BID: $1,500
56. 1963 Topps #537 Pete Rose (RC) - PSA NM+ 7.5
Attractive, newly-discovered unopened five-cent wax pack, the final example of three high- grade packs recently evaluated and graded by PSA. The colorful pack is bright and clean, deserving of its grade. The 1964 Topps set is loaded with Hall of Famers, and boasts a crisp, elegant design, with high-grade unopened packs recently breaking into five-figure territory. 58. 1964 Topps Five-Cent Wax Pack - PSA NM-MT 8 MINIMUM BID: $2,000
One of the most important mainstream cards of the 1960s, featuring a rookie “floating head” image of Pete Rose, who passed as we were building this auction. A well-centered, high- grade example, the card images are bright and clean, free of the print defects often found with this card. The 1963 Topps cards are particularly condition-sensitive
due to the colorful bottom (or top, in the case of the rookie cards) borders and their propensity for chipping - this example exhibits very lightly touched corners exposing just a tiny bit of white at the top right, as well as a small amount along the edges.
MINIMUM BID: $1,500
