Tumblers roll up gymnastics medal gold

ORLÉANS | They leaped, they pirouetted, they walked the walk on the balance beam, and they whirled around the bars with ease. The Tumblers Gymnastics Centre has more gold and silver and bronze to add to the club’s awards display after a trio of successful meet results to mark the end of January. Avery Rosales and Juliette Chapman, both of Orlé- ans, represented the club as part of the Team Ontario contingent in Edmonton for the National Stream Cup event. Both girls competed in the Canadian Pre-Nov- ice Aspire category against a field of 35 other gym- nasts from all across Canada. Team Ontario took the bronze in overall team com- petition with Rosales contributing her gold medal performance on the uneven bars and beam in the fi- nals with a fifth-place all-around finish in her class. Chapman battled against both a bout of influenza and her fellow competitors in Edmonton but was able to qualify for two of the event finals by the end of the first day of the tournament. Continuing illness forced her to withdraw from the competition on the follow- ing day. The Ontario Provincial Qualifier in Toronto saw a 16-member team of Orléans boys from Tumblers line up on the competition floor. This was the first provin- cial qualifier for all members of the Tumblers team. Eric Gauthier, one of the most experienced mem- bers of Tumblers, took second all-round in the Nation- al Youth category with a gold in the high bar event. Justin Perry also captured gold with his floor routine and placed second all-round in the National Open cat- egory. More Tumbler gold with Scott Parodoel-Gibson on parallel bars and a seventh all-round in the National

Open class. Mathew Lavoie finished third all-round in Level 1 (ages 8 and 9) with gold in both pommel horse and floor routine. Nicholas Duggan took gold on rings and bronze on parallel bars in Level 4 (age 13-and-up). Philopateer Faltas placed fifth all-round in Level 2 (ages 8 and 9). The Second Provincial Qualifier in Vaughan saw a team of 11 girls from the Tumblers Centre with Chelsea Gauthier of Orléans capturing gold all-round in Level 6 (age 12) category and silvers in vault, bars, and beam competition. Maya Rana of Orléans tied for the gold all-round in Level 7 (age 10) while at the same time collecting gold on the bars and on the beam. Rockland’s Jillian Van Every took the bronze all-round in Level 6 (age 11) with a gold-medal performance in floor techniques. Fiona Leclair Robertson of Kanata earned the bronze medal for all-round in Level 8 (age 10 and 11) with silvers in beam and floor technique. Orléans gymnasts Julie Anne Fiset, Alexandria Nolan and Beth Webster claimed their share of medals. Fiset took gold on beam and bars in Level 9 (age 11) and a silver all-round finish while Nolan placed third all-round in the same class. Webster took bronze all-round in Lev- el 9 (ages 12 and 13) with gold on the bars and silver on the floor.
