Greetings from St. Thomas by Steve Peters I have had a long-time interest in collecting early 20th-century postcards, with a special focus on Santa Claus. The now popular image of Santa dressed in red has not always been the case. The brown and purple-robed Santa dates from the 1910s. I also have cards in my
collection dressed in blue and green suits.
The whole world knows that Santa Claus lives at the North Pole, and therefore, that makes him Canadian. On December 23, 1910, at 10 pm, the Santa/Uncle Sam postcard was mailed from Philadelphia, PA. It was addressed to the home of Thomas Bradt and arrived at his home in Orwell, Ontario, on December 26, 1910! I would like to wish all readers a Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays, and a healthy and prosperous 2026.
The 21st-century dream of the latest telephone being wrapped under the tree is not new. The Bell Telephone postcard from 1910 offers a message that is still relevant today. It is interesting to note that in 1915, St. Thomas had 3500 telephones!
