when my time came to address them, I welcomed the op portunity to speak as one member o f the family in Christ Jesus to others o f the same family. The notices of the week’s activities followed my talk, and I was somewhat dismayed to hear o f a program of dances and theater parties, with- no mention whatever of a prayer meeting or o f anything suggesting an inspirational gathering. Many came to me in friendly fashion and thanked me for the “ lovely message,” and I wondered sadly whether it had passed over their heads as words only, without living power. As I was about to leave, however, two young people came and made an appointment to speak to me later in the week, as they were interested in my unusual ideas. When I questioned how unusual, they cheerfully replied, “ Oh, well, you know we have come to look upon the presentation you gave us as rather obsolete, but it sounded as if we might be missing something, after all.” Our subsequent talks, and our study of the narrow way precepts found in Scripture itself, led to a real cam

What is wanted is a college that puts the Scriptures and faith first and provides also education of the highest type, so that a diploma carries with it assurance o f a deepened life in Christ and an in vincible moral altitude of righteousness. It is an amazing thing that men and women will lie down complacently under the load of infidelity that has been heaped upon their loved ones, when the remedy is at their very doors. Names have been gathered of those who would welcome such a college as that which has just been described, and who would gladly bring their teaching under such an objective—professors-and other workers enough to fill the teaching staff. They are men and women

paign for Christ in His living power among many o f those young people. The “ draw” of amusement has lessened as the Source of all power has been uplifted among them. Young men and women in all walks o f life have come, and still come, to find out if the old landmarks o f the faith o f their fathers can still be be lieved in. They come, diffi dently in some cases, asking that confidence be observed, and they tell us o f the on slaught against faith in the in spired Word o f God, that they have witnessed in their college days. As a second example of young people who have asked prayer and counsel, I refer to a young man who informed us that his professor pooh-poohed any miracle aspect o f the hap penings in the New Testament, even explaining away Christ’s walking on the sea, by means o f a process o f chemical gases

with both the necessary scho lastic qualifications and firm faith in the Word o f God, who find no difficulty in emphasiz ing the truth as it is in Christ, in harmony with all true sci ence. The one definite need is to get into the minds o f God’s people the fact that these things are not just happenings— they are the result o f an organized campaign against God and against Hisi Christ. In 1930, the antireligious associations of the world united in one huge combine,- and today thousands of agents of atheism are plant ed in our churches, colleges, and other institutions. The power o f God is still

That there are more than 6 ,900 ,00 agents of militant atheism scattered throughout the world today ? That atheistic colleges are being organized? That millions o f pieces o f atheistic literature are being circulated? That atheistic Sunday-schools are on the in crease? That, according to the statement o f a former official o f the American Association for the Advancement o f Atheism ( 4 -A ) , $2,200,- 000 reach the coffers o f the 4 -A annually? That, according to International Atheism, “ The forces o f atheism are well organized— they work with efficiency and progress rapidly on the favorable soil prepared by religious in- differentism . . . the agents o f the new type o f atheism are in every part o f the world, and its membership runs into mil lions” ?

supreme, the Scripture cannot be broken, and the victory o f Calvary is for all time. Reports from branches of the Canadian Christian Crusade tell o f con versions o f atheists, and speak o f marked interest shown among unbelievers generally, as a courteous presentation o f the claims o f Christ is given. An extract from one o f these reports reads: One of our meetings was addressed by a converted criminal lawyer. He was an avowed atheist and evolu tionist, but .has been wonderfully saved—a young man who has since his. conversion been holding meetings among my friends who do not see eye to eye with me when it comes to Christ and His glorious gospel. Two wonderful conversions took place, though alas, the family of one of these dear ones is causing persecution and distress. W e have based our work on two texts, 2 Cor inthians 4 :6 : “ For God, who commanded the light to shine out o f darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge o f the glory o f God in the face of Jesus Christ,” and 1 Peter 3:15 : “ But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.” There is absolutely no reason for any man or woman o f sincere mind to lose his faith through education. There is only one answer to the new atheism— personal touch with the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, and knowledge of the Scripture that “ cannot be broken.”

which produced an appearance of Christ walking toward His affrighted disciples—a phenomenon which it was authoritatively stated could be produced again, if neces sary, under certain conditions of light. Why are these statements made ? Why is the winning o f a diploma coincident with a loss o f faith on the part of thousands o f the finest of our young men and women today ? Who is responsible for the fact that numbers of parents are questioning the wisdom of sending their sons and daughters to educational institutions in view o f the disastrous results spiritually? One highly placed and cul tured father, a man o f wealth, said, “ Education has become too expensive.” Since beginning this article, I have had an interview with a prospective missionary whose friend was to join her in work abroad for the Lord Jesus Christ. Her distress is great, for he has abandoned all faith. He writes re gretting his loss of spiritual vision, but he says faith goes as college education advances. What a libel on the true source of all knowledge ! This case is just one of many that come to our attention in letter or visit every week.
