Ann & Chuck Dever Regional Park Recreation Center It’s been a week of fun at the Ann & Chuck Dever Regional Park Recreation Center! 3 talented participants got to create and take home their own custom bracelets. The gym was a hub of activity with 109 pickleball players and clinic attendees, 6 dedicated walking fitness participants, and 5 basketball enthusiasts hitting the courts. Our self-paced programs continue to draw interest—50 guests used the fitness room, 5 dancers came for Line Dancing, 8 participated in games of Table Tennis, and 6 gathered for games of Mahjong.

Over 65 players hit the courts this week for pickleball! Great energy, lots of laughs, and everyone keeping warm by staying active.

The Recreation Center was buzzing with activity this week! Pickleball packed the courts with 68 players, filling the air with the sounds of volleys, laughter, and friendly competition. Boogie Chair brought the fun with 18 participants, keeping everyone moving to the beat and smiling along the way. Zumba added even more rhythm and energy, as 11 participants danced their way through a lively workout. Looking ahead, Paddle for a Purpose takes place this Saturday, November 15th! This special event combines a pickleball tournament and food drive, bringing players together to support a great cause. There will also be raffle drawings throughout the day with plenty of exciting prizes, making it a day of fun, community, and giving back.

Last week at the J.M.B Rotary Skatepark we had 65 skateboarders and 41 BMXers visit the park.

Good news from Ann & Chuck Dever Regional Park Pool! We had 127 dedicated lap swimmers, 162 playful recreation swimmers, 78 energetic participants for water aerobics, 20 swim team members practicing, and 4 eager swimmers for swim lessons. Ann & Chuck Dever Regional Park Pool

Centennial Park Pool

Despite the chilly weather, Centennial Park Pool remains a warm and welcoming hub for the community. This past week brought strong attendance, with 81 lap swimmers, 76 recreational swimmers, and 24 water aerobics participants enjoying the inviting water. Port Charlotte High School added to the excitement with 70 swimmers training on-site, including four boys advancing to the state championships, while 107 Sea Dragon Aquatic swimmers brought dedication and high energy to their sessions. Harold Avenue Regional Park Recreation Center

Harold Avenue Regional Park had 54 for Drop- in Pickleball, 22 Basketball, 9 Table Tennis and 18 for Volleyball. Our new program Brick-it had 1 excited participant. There were 10 walking the park for Walking Fitness this week. We had a good group of patrons come in to get active, Silver Sneakers had 40, Zumba had 5 and Pilates had 10. Youth Co-ed Basketball league logged 62 volunteer hours, 369 came out for practices and 615 attended the Jamboree.

Kenneth Rodriguez, Veronica Eckroth, and Katelynn Crockett, the training offered excellent guidance and hands- on practice. Their support helped the new lifeguards build confidence and essential lifesaving skills, ensuring they’re well-prepared to keep swimmers safe.

Parks & Natural Resources

Land Management Staff continued preparations for multiple prescribed fires. Preparations include cutting up downed trees for a more complete burn as well as mitigation of control points due to ember migration out of the burn unit. Staff conducted an exotic/invasive treatment at Charlotte Flatwoods Environmental Park. Nearly 4 acres of multiple exotic flora were treated as part of ongoing operations. Land management staff made it out to Thornton Key Environmental Preserve. Additional operations include planning 5-year action steps to meet the benchmarks established in the land management plans.

Coastal This week Coastal staff assisted Land Management staff with a boat ride out to Thornton Key Preserve for trail maintenance.

At the Punta Gorda Charlotte Library last week, the Kids Craft participants learned about the American Artist Georgia O'Keeffe and made our own paper plate painted poppies!

Port Charlotte Public Library

Miss Ashley visited Liberty Elementary Family Reading Experience with The Rainbow Crow and fun DIY rainbow scratch craft. Preschool Preppers explored the letters H and I with ice cream stacking and igloo games. Staff have begun unpacking stored boxes of books at Mid-County Regional Library. Most of the new shelves are up and new furniture is starting to arrive. Everything looks so good!

Englewood Charlotte Library

We had two of our favorite things at the Englewood Library this week: an author visit and creations in our Makerspace! We would like to issue a HUGE thank you to Michael Presley Bobbitt for the wonderful presentation that he gave; we are all anxiously waiting on the next book in the series! We also had a visit from Dutton the service dog at Ms Holly's storytime and our patron Sandra weilded the Cricut press with expert precision to create her new shirts.
