SPORT & ELEGANCE

Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal. As President of the Royal Yachting Association (RYA), The Princess Royal undertook a momentous tour of DOSC

as a sport for over 50 years, the Club has consistently increased participation in local waters, keeping in tradition with the city. The growing number of sailors has led to a mix of competitive racing and pleasure cruising, as well as environmentally friendly activities enjoyed by both men and women, from ages 6 to over 70.” Over the years, the sailing club also welcomed prominent personalities, such as British yachtsman and double Olympic gold medallist Rodney Pattison, Danish Olympic gold medallist and world-title holder Paul Elvstrom, and most recently, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal. As President of the Royal Yachting Association (RYA), The Princess Royal undertook a momentous tour of DOSC, the region's largest RYA training centre, during her visit to Dubai in March 2024. She expressed her appreciation towards the passionate individuals advancing the cause of sailing and promoting non- motorised water sports across the United Arab Emirates. The Club prides itself on its engaged and active membership that upholds the values of the sport of sailing and its positive impact on society in the United Arab Emirates. Amongst its many water-based initiatives, DOSC runs the volunteer-run Sailability, supported by GAC, empowering people of determination worldwide through a structured and inclusive sailing program and Women on Water (WoW), an initiative that welcomes and nurtures women in the sport of sailing, fostering equality and diversity, and an accessible platform for women of all ages to engage in inclusive sailing activities at all levels.

Whilst its vibrant journey into becoming a solid pillar of the Dubai sailing community has been impressive, DOSC still has ambitious goals for its future; Commodore Simon Reeves remarked, "We will continue to provide opportunities for budding sailors to learn, compete, and connect, while being a home to experienced sailors and enthusiasts." Remaining at the forefront of the sport of sailing since 1974 and continuing to foster an ever-growing community in the region, the future of DOSC looks smooth sailing as it sails over the horizon and onto its next fifty years.
