Äußerungen bzw. der menschlichen Umwelt sowie deren jeweilige Rolle für die Strukturierung des psychischen Apparates bleiben ebenso heftig umstritten wie ihre technischen Implikationen im analytischen Prozess und werden auf den von Freud beschriebenen „Ergänzungsreihen“ je nach Theoretiker ganz unterschiedlich verortet.
