Instructions In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter with the molasses and honey. Remove from heat and let it cool. Add the egg and anise extract to the butter-molasses-honey mixture and stir. In a large bowl, sift together the flour, white sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, baking soda, cardamom, allspice, nutmeg, cloves, pepper, ginger, and salt. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until well combined. Cover the dough and refrigerate for 2 to 3 hours. Preheat the oven to 325°F (≈ 163 °C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Roll the chilled dough into ~1-inch balls. Place them on the baking sheet and bake for 12 to 13 minutes, until cooked through. Once baked and cooled a bit, roll the cookies in the powdered sugar to coat. Store in an airtight container at room temp- erature for up to three days.
