We begin with a Fellow- guided tour of the Shenzhen museum, where we expand upon what we heard the previous evening from the Congressman. We see what Shenzhen was—through its stories and artifacts. Later in the day students will experience many of Shenzhen’s traditional practices and craftsmanship at Crane Lake Residence and Datian Historical Residence.

Location: Gankeng Ancient Town Activity/ Discussion Leader: Fellow DAY 3 PURPOSEFUL AND INNOVATIVE POLICY-MAKING After looking at Shenzhen’s past, we now begin our exploration of its purposeful and innovative policy- making. We will first meet representatives from Qianhai E Service Center, a hub of economic development initiatives to gain insights into the strategic planning driving Shenzhen’s rapid growth. We will also look at Shenzhen’s relationship with Hong Kong to understand how two urban giants compete and collaborate. Shenzhen’s growth must also be understood through its
