THE CREATIVE SOUL OF THE SOUTH NEW ORLEANS New Orleans is widely regarded as the birthplace of jazz music, a genre that emerged in the early 20th century and has since had a profound influence on music worldwide. Founded in 1718, the city boasts a blend of French, Spanish, African, and Creole influences, evident in its architecture, festivals, and local customs. Renowned for its Mardi Gras celebrations and delectable Cajun cuisine, the city serves as a melting pot (or seafood boil!) where I
creativity flourishes down every alleyway of the city’s neighborhoods, known as wards. The city has shown remarkable resilience in the face of tragedies and challenges like Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and continues to thrive despite the continual creep of the shoreline due to climate change. As a symbol of diversity and joyful artistic expression, New Orleans is one of America’s most unique and valuable cultural wellsprings. Designed with Sammi Bennet , who holds a Master of Philosophy in International Development from the University of Oxford, this fellowship includes lessons in the fundamentals of jazz and video production. The group also visits a nearby historical plantation to understand

are in town just a few weeks before one of the most consequential elections in history: a contest between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump. Students also dive into the history of the US, what inspired the Founding Fathers to launch the American experiment, the free press’s role in building a new Republic, and how the US became and managed to remain an economic and military superpower. This fellowship, designed with Daniel De la Torre Velasco , who holds a degree in International Studies from Columbia University, concludes with students writing an editorial opinion on whether the US continues to be, or is no longer, the ‘Leader of the Free World.’
landscape, preparing scholars for impactful careers in both corporate and humanitarian law. THE QUINTESSENTIAL AMERICAN MIDWEST CHICAGO The third largest city in the United States, Chicago is to the Midwest what Los Angeles and New York are to the coasts. Famous in some circles for its profound windiness and astonishingly greasy deep-dish pizza, it is home to world class architecture and historic works of art, such as The Chicago Picasso. Once the stomping grounds of Al Capone, it is one of America’s few remaining great manufacturing cities. It is also home to one of America’s very top universities, the University of Chicago. Through the exploration of Chicago’s historic past, innovative urban development, vibrant arts scene, and world famous foods, we explore so much F

close-knit and historic world of small publishing: zines, printmaking and artists’ books. Zines, pronounced ZEENs and short for ‘fanzine’, are small-batch, independently published works that are not made for profit, but rather in search of expression, connection and creative outlet. Students explore a wide range of touchpoints in the printing and small publishing world, including dives into archival material, attendance of nationally recognized arts fairs, introductions to digital and analog printing techniques, intimate explorations of the arts communities within NYC, and their own bookbinding and self-publishing experience. Designed with Sophie Kreutz , a graduate of the College of Charleston and an interdisciplinary educator and artist, in this Fellowship students explore the connection between art and community by living in it, past, present, and future. When you are set to print, what will you say?

Denver and Boulder is an area dubbed the “Colorado Clean Range.” There, over 2,100 companies are engaged in “cleantech,” plotting the path of renewable energy’s future. Colorado ranks in the top 5 cleantech innovation hubs in the US and is the #1 wind manufacturing state in the country. Students also visit the University of Colorado, which is ranked in the top 10 universities in the US for renewable energy research, and explore The Renewable and Sustainable Energy Institute, a joint institute between the University of Colorado Boulder and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. Scholars immerse themselves in the natural beauty afforded by the Rocky Mountains to garner an appreciation for just how much is at stake in sustainability initiatives. Scholars spend their days meeting with these organizations, learning about existing innovations and R&D for future ones.
