was 24 good units! We surpassed Lifestream ’ s goal of 18 units by 6 units! All participants received a t - shirt. Thanks to all the ORPS participants for donating blood. Fun fact: Blood is needed frequently: Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood. Lifestream will be back in March, if you missed out on this opportunity to give much needed blood.

Welcome to Health & Fitness!

In January, our committee hosted a Health & Fitness seminar featuring our very own Kathy Barnard and her “ Save Your Skin Foundation ”. Kathy gave an informative presentation about the importance of protecting your skin from the sun. Kathy was diagnosed with stage IV malignant melanoma, the cancer spread to her vital organs and at that time her treatment options were very limited. Her “ comeback ” story is because her son discovered a trial treatment paired with Kathy ’ s will to fight this disease head on. Kathy advocates for people who are dealing with cancer. She founded “ Save Your Skin Foundation ”, a multi - national patient - led, non - profit organization. One of our attendees, Kevin St. Clair stated, “ It was an articulate, heartfelt presentation by a cancer survivor. The foundation that Kathy has created and fostered is truly impressive in its accomplishments and goals. ” H&F is focused on bringing new and interesting activities and raising funds to keep our community active and healthy. It is said that “ laughter is the best medicine ”. With that in mind, what ’ s more fun than watching people giggle, laugh and move like “ silly teenagers ”? If you attended the first Silent Disco at ORPS, you would have seen “ grown ups ” enjoying themselves with a bit of their inner teen on display. Imagine the dance floor with some dancers moving fast paced and really grooving while others were slowly swaying! Many participants commented on how they enjoyed being able to socialize with their friends without having to shout! A special thank you to all those who donated items for our raffles and to the many volunteers who made our first ever Silent Disco a huge success. Congratulations to our “ brick winner ”. Always happy to add another engraved brick to our “ Pathway to Fitness ”! Speaking of new, we also hosted the first of its kind, PickleGolf Tournament, on Friday, January 24 on the Little 9. Over 115 participants pre - registered. More details on this “ fun ” - draiser in the next ORACLE.

February will be dedicated to a “ Healthy Heart ” month. There will be a fitness seminar with our very own Debbie Brown, who will be sharing her expertise in helping women suffering from hormonal imbalances navigate through perimenopause into menopause. Her goal is to empower through information/support, restore energy levels, and optimize quality of life. Mark your calendars for Thursday, February 6th at 11:00 a.m. We will follow up on Friday February 7th, at 2:30 p.m. with another fitness training session in the gym. The FreeMotion representative Tina Weidenkeller and our very own Health & Fitness personal trainer Stephanie Knox will demonstrate how to use the equipment properly by demonstrating and answering questions. Our Health & Fitness Committee could not do what we are doing if it wasn ’ t for our wonderful volunteers who are “ stepping up ” and supporting our activities. They set up and decorated tables, greeted our guests, sanitized headphones and much more. We appreciate you all so much. Many people have asked how they can help. One of the easiest ways is to donate your empty recyclable cans (soda/pop) along with your water bottles (plastic, no milk containers or glass) for the month of February only . We are using those funds to give back to our community to offer new and exciting activities. Drop recyclables off at lot #864 or lot #1096. Another way, purchase an engraved brick to be placed on our “ Pathway to Fitness ”. The order forms can be picked up from the Fitness Center.

You may have noticed that the Blood Bank was set up on Saturday, January 18th. The final count of the day
