Counties review fire dispatch service
of a City of Ottawa offer to provide the ser- vice for Prescott-Russell. Ottawa Fire Services would consider a five-year base contract to provide dispatch service for the UCPR, with an option for a further five-year extension if both sides agreed. Contract cost for the service would be based on a $3.25 per capita figure for the region going by the last federal census. That would remain the fixed cost for the initial five-year term of the contract. For the pro- posed five-year extension there would be a cost-of-living adjustment to the service fee. Using the $3.25 per capita cost figure, the
total value of the initial five-year contract would be $279,006. Breaking down that figure into shares based on each member municipality’s own population in the last census would work out to: $84,451.25 for Clarence-Rockland with 30.27 per cent of the UCPR population; $49,552.75 for Russell Township with 17.76 per cent of the popu- lation; $37,921 for The Nation municipality with 13.59 per cent; $34,290.75 for Hawkes- bury with 12.29 per cent; $25,938.25 for Alfred-Plantagenet Township with 9.3 per cent; $24,995.75 for Champlain Township with 8.96 per cent; $11,784.50 for Cassel-
man with 4.22 per cent; and $10,071.75 for East Hawkesbury with 3.61 per cent. Each municipality would be responsible for providing the radio gear, infrastructure system, and any compatibility costs to Ot- tawa Fire Services’ computer-assisted dis- patch setup. Chrétien noted in the report, counties staff do not have access to all the details about contract agreements with existing lo- cal fire dispatch services for a more specific measure of the impact a regional dispatch contract would have on local fire dispatch costs.
