Join us Jazz By The Bog by Susan Smythe As many patrons of our concerts are aware, this concert series has traditionally been held on the last Friday of October (to avoid Christmas bazaars and Advent service preparations); January (to relieve the January blahs that set in after the Festive season; and April (after Easter and before wedding season could create a conflict of scheduling). When planning our 22nd Season of Jazz By The Bog , the first thing we noticed was that it may not be the best idea to hold the October concert on Halloween night, so we moved it back a week to make sure the ghosts and goblins could have free rein over the evening.

Event Details October 29th, 2022 9:30am - 11:00am November 26th, 2022 9:30am - 11:00am Friday, October 24, was perfect to welcome the first audience of the 2025-26 season, all eager to hear JazzTen, a contemporary Big Band, led by Ralph DeLuca (alto sax), bringing together ten of the finest jazz musicians in the area. The band was formed and had only one rehearsal before Covid-19 shut our world down. However, since 2023, they have been able to regroup and enjoy playing a mix of improvisational jazz and traditional Big Band music, in between playing with many other groups individually! amazing musicianship!! Another familiar song, Lover Man , settled everyone back a bit in their seats as Ralph gave a sultry Billie Holiday feel to the tune before the last song of the first set was delivered. EdwardJones ® EdwardJones ® To start the toes tapping, Time After Time , was given an up-tempo swing feel with solos from Barry Usher (tenor sax) and Ron Walker (trumpet). Keeping with swing, the next song, Groove Merchant by Thad Jones, allowed Ralph and trombonist Peter Hysen to take solo duties. However, listening fast was required as the tune Black had fingers flying when Barry, Tony DeLuca (baritone sax), and Ron traded solo spots while Mitch Tyler (bass) laid down a walking bass line, Nevin Campbell (piano) was the glue holding it together, and Greg Mainprize (drums) kept the beat steady! Coffee & Snac December 10th, 2022 9:30am - 11:00am Edward Jones 1637 Hyde Park Rd. Unit 7 (SW corner of plaza near constructio London, ON N6H SL7 The second set was every bit as much fun and exciting. Starting with a quick tempo piece called Film Noir , Peter Hysen provided some great trombone moments, followed by Ralph and Ron sharing the spotlight in the second track. It was then Samba time with Barry taking a solo on SUNY (a tune named for the State University of New York) followed by a Miles Davis All Blues played beautifully by Ron on trumpet. Tony on baritone sax and Jason Jamieson on trombone shared duties on the next swing number. Finishing the evening was a great song called Black Nile by a local Toronto arranger with Ralph, Peter and Nevin showing their expertise in the interwoven solos. Additional high trumpet lines throughout the concert were provided by the very capable Alexa Brown. Coffee & Snacks are on us. Although we had a few challenges to start this season – the change of date, a website update for Online Tickets (NEW – www. staidans.ca/pages/jazz-by-the-bog), a non-functioning church sign on which we depend for drive-by advertising, and… a World Series baseball game (who knew the Jays would get this far??), we had a very happy audience smiling as they made their way to their cars. Next concert – Nevin Campbell & Rachelle Courtney – Friday, January 30, 2026, 8:00 pm. Remember – tickets make great gifts! physiotherapy clinic
