Kelsey on track for top three in car racing SPORTS

HAMMOND | Before the official start of summer break, students and staff at St. Francis Xavier Catholic High School took some time out to honour their top ath- letes of the past season. Taryn Forrester received this year’s SFX Award of Excellence in Athletics. Camerynn Griffith and Jessica Hearn were named the Male and Female Athletes of the Year for the Grades 7 and 8 level of sports at the school. Jessica Lafave and Zach Barber are the Fe- male and Male Junior Athletes for the 2012- 2013 season at SFX. Kaitlyn Napper is Senior Female Athlete of the Year for SFX while Blake Rennick is the of the border. Brent Kelsey of Plantagenet and his crew are preparing for a monster marathon mo- tor mêlée at the Mohawk International Raceway in Hogansburg, New York this Fri- day. The 40-lap Seaway Series event will fea- ture top drivers from Eastern Ontario, West- ern Québec and New York state battling for the number one spot in the sportsman modified event. Kelsey’s BKR Dirtcar Sportsman Modified Racing team has earned itself fourth-place overall so far this season at the Mohawk

International’s sportsman division cham- pionship run. The team is one point away from claiming a berth in the top-three com- petitors group out of 35 drivers entered this season and five races left to run. “Things are starting to get real interest- ing, that’s for sure,” stated Kelsey. “Our team has been working hard in the shop in prep- aration for these upcoming events.” The BKR Team also a few other events on its schedule outside of the Mohawk Inter- national runs, including the BOS Brockville Speedway for a couple races there.
