BOCCE IS BACK

THE GAME IS ON A ROLL

“Bocce ball is back and it’s stronger than ever!” said Paulo Hexsel, Director of Racquet Sports.

the small white ball, known as a pallino, than the other team.

In fact, with its renewed momentum at Frenchman’s Creek, an official Bocce seat has been established within the Racquet Sports Committee. “We want to ensure that Bocce players have a voice in shaping the program,” Hexsel added. “This strategic move reflects Bocce’s rapid growth and its firm place in the club’s social and competitive landscape.” Making the Bocce experience as exciting and as engaging as possible for all members is one of the chief objectives for the program. Bocce ball is not new to Frenchman’s, but it has steadily gained in popularity among members. It’s another reason why a dedicated seat was established on the Racquet Sports Committee, added Hexsel, to ensure it evolved in tandem with Tennis, Pickleball and Creek Ball. Once an old-world sport enjoyed by European nobility, as we reported in the October issue of The Current , today Bocce ball is played in backyards, parks and—yes—even sports bars. The coordination, cross-training and strategic thinking required to play Bocce ball help make it a true complement to other racquet sports, especially if you have an intense day on other racquet sports courts. Bocce also serves as a contrast. The sport demands precision and control, while Tennis, Pickleball and Creek Ball are fast-paced and require agility. As the sport continues to flourish, Bocce is becoming a core component of the social and sporting culture here at Frenchman’s. Plans for the next year or two include expanding participation through more structured leagues and tournaments, and fostering inter-club Bocce matches with neighboring country clubs. Truly, a game for all ages, Bocce is accessible to all. Minimal equipment is required, and all of it is provided at the Frenchman’s Creek Bocce ball court. The game is about friendship and camaraderie—and when you add cocktails to the mix, like our Cocktails and Bocce event on February 20, it’s more fun than you can imagine.
