Gun Safety Locks Available at All Libraries Safety and Gun Violence Prevention Begin at Home Free gun safety locks remain available at all 16 public library branches in Anne Arundel County, thanks to a program led by the Department of Health’s Gun Violence Intervention Team (GVIT). This initiative, which began in April 2023, is the first of its kind in the state. Since its launch, more than 7,000 gun safety locks have been distributed to county residents. “The library is a trusted community institution where residents can count on accurate information, high-quality educational tools and helpful resources,” said AACPL CEO Skip Auld. “The success of this program surely indicates that residents want to do their part to reduce gun violence.” County residents ages 18 and older are eligible to receive up to two gun safety locks per household, per day. No proof of residency is required. Along with the safety locks, gun owners will also receive manufacturer instructions on how to properly use the gun lock. The program is funded by a grant from the Governor's Office of Crime Prevention, Youth, and Victim Services. For more information about this pilot program, as well as additional resources, visit aahealth.org/GVIT .
