the coming of the Messiah. When the Lord Jesus Christ did appear to bring them deliverance and salvation, they re fused to accept Him. The Bible says that He came unto His own people but that they received' Him not. In the busy rush of life, with our mad purmit for “things" in this affluent society, are we missing the real treamre? Think of the sparkling diamonds awaiting our dis covery in God’s Word as we faithfully study it day by day. To some the Scrip ture may seem like just another volume on the library shelf. In it, and it alone, are the wonderful promises of eternal life, as well as the asmrance of victory over the trials of our day by day exist ence here and now. Are you looking for the non-essentials of life ? Don’t throw away your time on things that really don’t matter, “But seek ye first the king dom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” * Swallowing your pride will never give you indigestion. * * * He who has slight thoughts about sin, never has had a great concept about God. * * * So live that when people speak evil of you, no one will believe them. * *

reason for the verdant area actually is found underneath the soil with a rich loam that can’t he seen by the human eye. The blue stem grass sends its roots deep into the earth, with some plants going down as far as eight feet to reach the rich limestone bedrock that gives the grass its special strength. Agricul turalists tell us that the rock beneath makes all the difference. It was the Psalmist David who gladly testified, “The Lord is my rock and my fortress, my deliverer, my God, my strength, in whom I will trust.” Today it may seem that you will have to send your roots down a little deeper, but never fear, the Rock is stiU there. Our utter and complete dependence must be wholly upon Christ. Sometimes sick ness or danger frightens us. We can’t reason how we will be able to get through the days ahead. Remember, the Lord is your strength as you rest your all upon Him. When you are worried or discouraged, troubled or fretting, regain your foot ing by placing it firmly upon the Sav iour, the Solid Rock. You may tremble on the Rock, but never fear, the Rock will never tremble underneath you. So, may our testimony be that of the Psalm ist David who declared, “He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.” * * * A fanatic it one who increases his speed after he has already lost the way. * * * REAL TREASURE It is said that fate has a strange way of paying the covetous. This is illustrat ed in the account of the farmer who had a strong desire to own a diamond mine. He sold his prosperous farm and trav eled to such places as Africa and South America, hoping to locate a rich strike. All was futile, however, and his money, as well as his health were eventually gone. Despondency so gripped his soul that in the depths of discouragement he committed suicide. The most tragic part of the story, however, concerns the fact that, with truth stranger than fiction, on the farm which he had earlier sold, rare and beautiful diamonds were discovered. The precious gems for which he so des perately sought were right in his own backyard. Prophetically, for many cen turies, the people of Israel looked for
