Arvanigian Moderates Panel At CorrExpo: Equipping Team Members for Success During the TAPPI CorrExpo 2023 conference in Cleveland, Ohio earlier this month, a panel made up of key leaders in the corrugated packaging industry shared their thoughts and experiences on some of the tools they use to help their team members be successful. Greg Arvanigian, CEO of Arvco Container, moderated the session fo- cused on the methods and practices that help attract, retain, and moti- vate employees in today’s ever-changing industry in addition to the chal- lenges that seemingly every organization is faced with in today’s working environment — attracting good employees.
Contributing from their unique perspectives were Casie Case, Ear- ly Talent Program Ambassador at the Packaging Corporation of Amer- ica; Mark McNay, Senior Vice President at SMC Packaging Group; Todd McPherson, Human Resources Director at Jamestown Container; and To- nya Ouradnik, Human Resources Manager at Fosber America. The following questions and answers from the panel session were edited for conciseness and clarity. Arvanigian: What tools are you using to attract new plant employees? McPherson: The tools have been the same since the internet came on, but what we’re doing now is we’re being way more focused on it, spend- ing a lot more time doing it. doing things like getting our temp agencies and getting groups to- gether and getting involved with the local unemployment agencies. We just had a plant fair to get people into our plant. We had 35 people come to that and we were able to put out 17 offers. So that was like our biggest success, but that was flooding the market.
