Whether you’ve been visiting our office for many years or are a new face, you’ve likely had the opportunity to meet our registered dental hygienist, Krystina. Krystina has worn many hats around the office and has the special ability to impact every patient she works with positively — she’s a gem. After graduating from dental assisting school in 2016, Krystina joined our team as an intern. We immediately loved her energy, passion for the field, and dedication to our clients. Once her internship wrapped up, we had to have her officially join our team. So, we offered her a full-time position as an assistant. “Before I attended assisting school, I graduated with my teaching degree, but I quickly realized that that wasn’t my calling,” Krystina said. “A friend then suggested dental assisting, and I took the leap, applied, and got in. It was the best decision that I’ve ever made. After assisting for a while, one of our hygienists that I worked closely with, Pauline, suggested that I return to school to become a dental hygienist. After taking her advice, I never looked back. I love what I do.” While Krystina is passionate about her work and clients, she notes it’s our team that empowers her. “It makes a world of difference when you work with others who share the same passion, goals, and ambitions as you do,” Krystina shared. “I also love helping patients. It’s amazing when someone is in your chair for an hour, and you have the opportunity to educate them on the health of their teeth, and they leave with the biggest smile on their face because they are so appreciative of what you taught them.” Like many of you, Krystina is a Jersey girl at heart. She’s lived here her entire life and doesn’t think she’ll ever leave; she loves everything about it. But don’t be fooled — she likes to take vacations and plan adventures. She and her husband enjoy camping in Georgia, exploring, trying out new restaurants and breweries, and spending quality time together. BEHIND THE SMILE Meet Krystina, Our Passionate and Caring Dental Hygienist

Krystina is a ray of sunshine and a breath of fresh air — she constantly reminds our patients to be proud of their accomplishments and reassures them. “I know that going to the dentist isn’t the most fun thing to do, and it can be terrifying for some patients, but making the first initial phone call is the toughest part,” she says. “I have patients in my chair mention that they were afraid and nervous before their appointment, but once they showed up, they felt so much more comfortable and at ease. The first step is the biggest, but most importantly, keep smiling. Life is too short not to smile.” Krystina, we are grateful you chose Newman Springs Dental Care to call home. Our patients love you, and we love you! Thanks for giving your very best every day for our patients!

FROM STRESS RELIEF TO FRESH BREATH

Unveiling the Surprising Benefits of Sugar-Free Gum

Curbs Snacking Chewing sugar-free gum can also be a helpful strategy for managing cravings and reducing unnecessary snacking between meals. It provides a low-calorie and satisfying alternative to high-calorie, sugary snacks and helps contribute to a healthier diet. Stimulates Digestion When you chew sugar-free gum, gastric juices and enzymes, bile, and acids are all activated to help promote a smoother digestion process. While sugar-free gum isn’t a substitute for nutritious meals, it can be beneficial after eating as it reduces the risk of indigestion or acid reflux. Freshens Breath In a pinch, sugar-free gum is a quick tool to freshen up your breath after a meal or when

Chewing gum — it’s a habit enjoyed by people of all ages for many reasons. For some, it helps kick a bad habit, combat dry mouth, or fight boredom. For others, it covers up bad breath or aids in managing stress. Because traditional gum contains sugar, many people turn to sugar-free gum as a healthier alternative for their bodies and teeth. Let’s look at some of the advantages of using sugar-free gum. Improves Oral Health According to the American Dental Association (ADA), chewing sugar-free gum stimulates saliva production, which helps neutralize acids in your mouth, wash away food particles, and remineralize tooth enamel. Studies have shown that chewing sugar-free gum for 20 minutes following a meal aids in decreasing the possibility of cavities and decay in your mouth.

you need a quick solution for halitosis. Because chewing promotes saliva flow, which helps wash away bacteria and odors in your mouth, it can aid in eliminating stale bad breath. Reduces Stress and Anxiety Studies show that chewing sugar-free gum is a way to relieve stress and anxiety. The repetitive motion of chewing can help relax the jaw and ease tension in the face and neck muscles, which can be helpful in times of stress. There you have it — the benefits of chewing sugar-free gum extend far beyond enjoyment! When choosing a sugar-free gum, we recommend choosing a brand with the ADA seal of approval! If you have any questions, please call, or we can chat about it at your next dental appointment!

WHY LOSE WEEKENDS CLEANING? IMPLEMENT THESE HACKS FOR A TIDIER HOME!

Nobody wants to live in a messy home, but staying organized is often easier said than done, especially when you have kids. Spending weekend after weekend cleaning up messes made throughout the week can get exhausting. Thankfully, you can implement some quick organizational hacks that will help you reduce your cleaning time. Make use of Command Strips. Many areas in our homes could better utilize space. Command Strips, or double-sided tape, can add more space and reduce clutter in closets and pantries. Place Command Strips on a desktop file holder and stick it to the inside of your closet or pantry door. This will give you a new area where you can store just about anything that will fit. If you have a standing paper towel holder, another helpful Command Strip hack is to place the strips on the bottom so it doesn’t slide away when you use it. It only takes a couple of seconds to fix. Create a welcoming entryway. When people walk into your house, they need somewhere to hang their coats. After you walk your dog, you need a place to put their leash. Having an area by your door to hang things will help reduce clutter and make your house look nicer. And you can easily create a space for this. Buy a 12–24- inch picture ledge and a handful of hooks. Drill holes, affix the ledge to your wall, and screw the hooks into the bottom of the shelf. Now you have

somewhere to hang things and display pictures or art to spruce up your entryway. Free up your kitchen cabinets. If you keep your bowls, plates, and other dishes in a cabinet, how do you have them organized? If you want to make the most of your space, invest in a plate organizer. Placing it in your cabinet will allow you to stack your different types of dishes in one area, freeing up space for other items.

SUDOKU

Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars, are the last to emerge in the back of your mouth. While they can be beneficial, most people experience complications with their wisdom teeth and must consider removing them. Wisdom teeth removal is a standard procedure in our office that can significantly benefit your oral health. Here are a few ways that extracting wisdom teeth can help improve your oral health. It prevents crowding. One of the most common reasons patients have one or more wisdom teeth removed is the insufficient space in their mouth to accommodate the extra molars. When wisdom teeth emerge through the gums, they may cause crowding and misaligning of other teeth. Removing them early can prevent potential orthodontic complications and maintain the alignment of your other teeth. It reduces the risk of impaction. According to the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, about 90% of individuals have at least one impacted wisdom tooth. Because wisdom teeth often don’t have enough space to erupt fully, this leads to impaction, meaning the tooth gets trapped below the gumline. Impaction can lead to infection and discomfort. It minimizes the risk of gum disease. When wisdom teeth partially emerge or become impacted, they can create pockets between the gum and tooth surface, making it difficult to clean the area properly. As a result, these areas become a breeding ground for bacteria, which can lead to infection and gum disease. At Newman Springs Dental Care, wisdom teeth removal is a proactive approach to maintaining optimal oral health. If you have any questions or concerns, please come for a consultation. Proactivity is always better than reactivity! SAFEGUARD YOUR SMILE The Benefits of Wisdom Teeth Removal

Keep Yourself Safe While Traveling Alone

KEEP YOURSELF SAFE WHILE TRAVELING ALONE Check in the smart way. When you check in to your hotel, always ask for two room keys — this way, hotel staff and anyone else in earshot will automatically assume someone else is traveling with you. If they ask how many guests will be staying with you, don’t admit you are alone. If you have the option, request a room that isn’t on the ground floor, as research shows they are the easiest to break into! Inspect your room. As soon as you enter the room, make a quick sweep to ensure no one is present in closets, in the shower, or under the bed and that nothing appears to be amiss. It’s always best to be safe rather than sorry! Keep your eyes peeled. Any time you leave your room, even if it’s just to scope out the vending machines, be alert for anyone watching or following you, and always keep your room number discreet. If you ever feel like someone is following you, get off on a different floor and avoid going to your room. Use the deadbolt. If the door in your room comes equipped with a deadbolt, use it! This extra safety measure keeps even those with a key from entering your room without your knowing! Share the hotel information. Let your family and friends know where you are staying! Provide them with the hotel name, address, and phone number in case an emergency arises!

Traveling alone can be a memorable and adventurous experience — it’s a great way to step outside your comfort zone and continue learning about yourself. While solo travel is chock-full of exciting perks, staying alone in a hotel can be dangerous if you aren’t careful to take certain safety precautions. The next time you take a trip by yourself, keep these tips in mind!

Traveling solo is a thrilling experience, but it comes with some extra steps to stay safe! Trust your instincts and use these tips to ensure your trip goes down in the memory books as safe and exciting!
