SEDLEY WELLS MUSIC COMPETITION George and Bruce in tune at music competition

The junior section was also won by an accomplished young pianist, with Year 9 student Bruce Chen taking first place for his rendition of “Allegro, movement 2” from “Sonata in F, Opus 2, No 1” by Beethoven. This year the piano, flute, voice, violin, viola, guitar, French horn, and baritone saxophone were represented, the musicians mostly selecting classical works, although a couple of modern pieces were also included. He impressed judge Paul Ellis, a former Director of Music at College, with his interpretation of “Andante molto, movement 2” from “Sonata in E, Opus 7” by Grieg. A talented and versatile musician, comfortable in different musical genres, George also gained his ATCL diploma earlier in the year. His fellow senior students Max Toth, Nicholas Lidstone, Chris Park and Johnson Fu were commended George Murray was the deserving winner of the senior section of the 2018 Sedley Wells Music Competition.
