College – Issue 36

In Year 9 it’s compulsory to play rugby at Tonbridge, and Sam played in the U15A rugby team on Saturday afternoons, afterwards heading off in the pitch dark to his host family for the remainder of the weekend – a chance to see British family life in action, and to take in some nice pub lunches. Sam’s Tonbridge experience grew from hearing Assistant Principal – Community Engagement and Special Projects Neil Porter speak about the new exchange in assembly. “I thought it was something I’d really like to do. And I think Year 10 is the best time to do it. When I spoke to my parents about it, they said to go for it. It was about the right length of time and there was no language barrier.”
