College – Issue 36

The 2nd XI and 3rd XI sides both played in the 1st XI Bowl grade, finishing 2nd in their pools after competitive terms of cricket. The two College Colts sides had unbeaten terms, with each recording three outright wins and a draw when they played each other. The College White side finished 1st in the grade, with St Bede’s College 2nd and College Black 3rd. All three teams finished within four points of each other in a very close competition. For the College White side, Tim Seeto scored two centuries and a 91no in the last game of the term. The College cricket club also had three T20 sides, and three Year 9 and 10 sides. The Year 9A side are in a very competitive section this term and won four matches of their seven to sit 5th at the end of the term’s cricket. Lewis Whiteside has been a consistent wicket taker for the team. Mountain Biking The South Island schools mountain biking championships were held at the Mt Hutt bike park in late March. Three separate disciplines were raced in Enduro, Downhill and X-country.

College had a number of riders attend and race in all three disciplines. Top 10 placings were achieved by George Clarke – 8th in the U15 Enduro and 4th in the U15 Downhill, and Tom Gould – 7th in the U17 Downhill event. Jonty Hodges competed in this year’s Motatapu bike race, which is a 47km mountain bike event with over 1500 competitors. Jonty was the 145th male home overall and finished 2nd in the 16–18 age

grade with a time of 2:54:36. A great effort. Polo College polo players have had two tournaments in Term 1, with the most recent being the South Island SUPA tournament. College had three teams entered in the first tournament of the season at Sefton, with one in each of the A, B and C grades. The C team had one win and two losses with the win
