SPORT Cricket festival and top scorer
Blue skies, keen supporters and the sound of leather on willow made for a great Trans-Tasman Cricket Festival from 18–25 January and an exciting start to 2019.
For the 21st consecutive year, top players from King’s College (Auckland), Shore School (Sydney), Canberra Grammar School and Christ’s College came together to indulge their passion for cricket and engage in some healthy trans-Tasman rivalry. Sixty players and staff, four umpires, 26 parents from College and 40 from opposition teams were all on hand daily to make the event run professionally at the College Cricket Grounds in Hagley
Park, which had been beautifully prepared by Peter Domigan. “I was lucky. I had such a fantastic parent group who supported me every day in every respect to ensure the festival ran seamlessly, and whose hospitality to the visitors was absolutely phenomenal. College did a fantastic job, particularly the meals and catering, which was far above anything the visitors had seen previously,” says festival coordinator and MiC Cricket Stephen Dods.
A festival dinner in the Dining Hall on Tuesday 22 January was a real highlight, with guest speakers Crusaders coach Scott Robertson and Black Cap cricketer Todd Astle sharing tales about their respective codes. Executive Principal Garth Wynne hosted the coaches another night in a very well-received event in which cricket and teaching were discussed in equal portions.
