Your first car – for $20

In a novel move by the Christ’s College Cricket Club, parents, friends, sponsors and car enthusiasts got behind the launch of one of the club’s biggest ever fundraising “drives” – an Audi 2007 A3 Sportback. And on Friday 5 April at 1pm in the Chapman Room the draw was made by Archibalds representative and Old Boy Andrew Densem, with Year 13 student Bailey Libeau winning the coveted set of wheels. Called “My First Car”, the raffle was limited to 2000 tickets, with all proceeds going to fund a new 20-wicket grass training block and bowling machines at the Christ’s College Cricket Grounds. The car, valued at $6500, generously donated by sponsors Archibalds, came with an AA Plus youth membership, an AA Defensive Driving course, a Hands Free car kit and $200 worth of petrol vouchers.

Second prize went to student William Briscoe who received an AA membership and defensive driving course, Hands Free car kit and $200 worth of petrol vouchers. Third prize of a custom-made cricket bat from Laver & Wood went to Year 9 student Henry Blackley. Organisers Janine Morrell-Gunn and Devonie Eglinton said it was great to see College taking an active role in promoting driver safety to students and having a safe and reliable car was an important step on the road to independence for teen drivers. In all $40,000 was raised for the new cricket amenities, which would have “generational impact” for many years to come, said Executive Principal Garth Wynne.
